NATIONAL GUARD TO MOBILIZE
TIMES BUXBATJ, AT STATE CAFITAX,.
IXDIANAPOL1S. IXD, May IT. It will be a busy month for the members of the Indiana nst,,.nal guard between now ami the fifteenth of Junr, getting ready to respond to the call for mobil
ization of the national sunrd of the en
tire country. It ns said, that the rea
son the unofficial announcement of the date for mobilization was announced was that the government wished to Rive all of the members plenty of time to arrange their affairs 50 they could leave for the front. It Is said that the Indiana national guard will mobilize at Fort Benjamin Harrison, and that there the regiments
will all be brought up to full war strength while the regiments are atso being made ready for whatever service may be assigned to them. One hundred and seventy new buildings are to be erected at Fort Benjamin Harrison for the accommodation of 13.000 more men than are now In the officers training camp. These facilities are expected to take care of the regiments of regulars that arc to come
there and of the Indiana national guard. Mast Erect New Buildings. Contractors are having a hard time to get workmen to put up these buildings. They are advertising for 2.000 carpenters, 600 plumbers. 300 electricians. 100 concrete finishers and 00 laborers, and they offer union wages, with time and a half for overtime over eight hours and they will work, the men twelve hours a day. Thus the men will get fourteen hours ray for twelve hours work. No one knows how long the Indlani national guard will remain at Fort
Benjamin Harrison, but It is pointed out that the national guard will be Teady for active service; thre months before the conscripted army Is ready. It is said that the Indiana troops called to the colors under the conscription act may not be assembled at Fort Benjamin Harrison, but that they may be sent to some other place. It has been announced at Washington that a committee of army officers has been appointed to select a site for the mobilisation camp for the Indiana and Kentucky troops, who will compose the Seventeenth army division. Fort Benjamin Harrison will be crowded with the national guard, the regular ar..l such other forces ss may be placed there, and there would be no room for the new army. The new camp may, and likely will be. located In Kentucky.

Governor and Fire Marshal Asks That All Fireworks Be Prohibited.
INDIANAPOLIS. IXD.. May IT. Gov. Goodrich and Horace 11. Friedley, state fire marshal, today began a movement for a "safe and sane Fourth of July In Indiana." Requests were sent to every city of the state by Mr. Friedley asking that the use of fireworks and all explosives be prohibited this year in celebrating the Fourth. "With each letter was sent a copy of a model ordinance to prevent the use of explosives and fireworks and Mr. Friedley asks that the ordinance be enacted at once. Gov. Goodrich, in bis letter, states his reasons for asking prohibition of the use of fireworks. He says: "Alien enemies might take advantage of the. opportunity to use explosives in destruction of bridges and other public and private property: material used in fireworks can be used in munitions; there is no doubt of the suffering and injury caused through the use of fireworks: millions of dollars of property have been destroyed and it would be a calamity this year to destroy a warehouse; that this year all municipalities should ' prohibit the use of fireworks, toy baloons and other similar devices and that it is the -patriotic duty of all citizens to assist in this work."

FIRE THREATENS - CLARK STATION
Clark, Station in the northwest pari of Gary was menactei by a seriou?. blaze, which destroyed three dwellings early last evening and which was prevented from doing further damage only by the hard work of Gary flrmen and a bucket brigade of citizens. Firemen under Chief Grant and Assistant Chief Adam Seifert were handicapped because of the lack of water mains. Chemicals were without avail. A pump'was discovered at the Allies' military remount depot and this afforded some water. Caused by a gasoline stove explosion in a tenement occupied by Greek laborers the blare entirely destroyed the building, which is oared by; Mrs. Lena Rehbein. It spread to two houses owned by Mrs. Bertha Brown. The first occupied by James Moss was ruined and the second occupied by Charles Sonebain was almost completely grutted. In all the loss was $500. Mayor Torsi Za Alarm. Mayor Johnson, who was passing through ("lark Station in an auto, turned in the alarm.
