Of course you can do much more than just joining. You can organize your family, your friends, your society, your fraternity, your class, your club; in fact it makes no difference who you are or what you belong to, your dollar will be appreciated not only here, but by those on the other side who are taking part in this the world's most awful conflict. You ask what is the Red Cross for? It is for the relief of the suffering. The members of this chosen band are martyrs to the cause. They are constantly facing death from shrapnel in the trenches, gun fire on land and sea, infectious diseases at the bedside and are subject to call any minute day or night. They are givers of cheer. This is the greatest institution of its kind in the world. You should consider it an honor as well as your duty to join. c Pre-sidlent Woodlrow Wilson is at the head of this great movement and he has sent out a call for you to help in the work. This locality has responded nobly to the call to arms with its large number of favored sons. The people of Hammond and West Hammond showed they could do things when thousands carrying Old Glory marched through th3 streets to the tune of the national airs Preparedness Day in Hammond. This very minute is the time for you to show the courage of your convictions by deciding now to join ths Red Cross movement. Do your part to help put Hammond in the front rank where she belongs in this grand work with 5,000 members.
