GARY LADY GIVES II SPLENDID TALK
Mis Frank Sheelian. president of the College club at Gary, and chaii of the committee, on forestr'y and waterways of Indiana Federate Clubs. spoUe convincingly on the "Conservation of the Sand Uuries" this noon at the weekly luncheon of the members' .council at the Chamber of Commerce. Interestingly she described the wonderful advantages of the dunes, the points of Interest to poets, artists, scholars and scientists and to the public as a national park. She urged that Hammond do its bit and attend the great historical pageant to be held in the dunes near Tremont. May 3 and June 3. A 'Save the Dunes' petition was circulated among- the members an 1 signed by all. It. with hundreds of others, will eventually be sent to congress, all of which is to encoura.ee that body to save the dunes and make it a. national park. If the dunes are made a national park it will be thc only one this side of the Mississippi and will be located accessible to 5.Of'0.000 people. President Jesse E. Wilson announced that an open meeting: for all members of the Chamber of Commerce is to be held next Monday nlg"ht, when referendum. No. 20. the bill before the house at present to raise revenue to carry on the war. will be discussed and a vote taken. Its results are to be snt to the congressmen from this district. A vote of thank was given to the Hammond Woman's club for the program they have arranged for the last two luncheons, Mrs. Sheehan being secured by t"hem. The high school orchestra is to play at the next Thursday's luncheon.
