never conic back into this state. It Is-po'nte.l out that any poiit.-al party that wou'.J undertaker to restore .onions in Indiana after the stale has Bone' dry wouhl be annihilated at ti e poll;.. Those who have supported the pro. hihitinn niovement are savinK that once the saloons are out of business and the lhiuor political niaeh;ne is broken up it will be Impossible to accomplish anyhiiin at the polls. Without organization such as the liquor interests have maintained for year", they wj 1 be poiverless, they say, for they cannot hoi.! their forces toK'thrr. Per.-ons who have followed the course of de ,lop:i;en t s in the antiliquor fi-;ht that has ratted in Indiana for the last ten o- more years declare that the m'oon and brewery people brought prohibition on th.'mse!v,-s. They point out that saloons throughout the state refused to obey the laws. No law could hold them, and their Inclination to violate the laws became not orious. Ilreweries went into politi R to control public officials and to protect the liquor business from law enforcement. All of this aroused public sentiment more and more each year, until finally, the people wotlM no; stand for it any longer, and it is said that this is the real rcai-xni why the prohibition bill was passed These people say tn.it if the saloons and the brewery interests had ii spected the law and had sought to keep the tiquor business on a decent level the people would never have, made the state dry. When the present session of the legislature opened prohibition apparently had little chance to win. A bsp liquor lobby came to Indianapolis and started to work. For a ti:ae it looked as if he lobby would prevent prhitction lcji-

it had been expected that her three sen- ' tlors. Kinder, "Iriint and N'ejdl, would ote against, the bill. But shortly hefort the i.nal action was taken if. was fti'KUod by n-rue that the sentiment in Lake county was perhapa two-thirds ; wet and one-third dry, and it was there- , fore decided that Kinder and Nejdl ! should vote against thu bill and that . lirunt, who, it was t-aid, really wished to vote dry. should vote for the bill. And ihey split that way. As was predicted in these dispatches several rlnjs ao, the vote was a landslide. Ther are eleven members of the senate. Bird. Mrskine, Hazen. Hlrsch. But it was believed that, since it was known that the drys woald have enough votes to pass the bill, all of the other senators would vote for it. It would be a ease of fretting on the land wagon. That was evident. Therefore it was estimated that the oil! would have less than than thirty-seven votes, with a possibility of thirty-eight. And it pot Ihtr-ty-eijrht votes.
While th- excitement of the prohibition f.fcht was still on a:i attempt was made in the senate lnte yesterday afternoon to suspend the rules and pass the woman suffrage bill. Senator Mastoti, of Whitley and Huntington counlie:?. moved to suspend the rules and yote on the bill, but after a long and heated debate he withdrew th motion, because he found he could not get the thirtyfour votes necessary to suspend 1b--rules. The bill is now before the sen.it' however, and may be called up on Monday. Tui TiMBa the world's nwa Dish Pan, 8 qt Grey En:mel( V "' ., ' 1 ny, t v 1
