FUHEB CHAMPS ARE BUSY
By H. C. HAMILTON j (United Jre Staff Correspondent.) j NEW YORK. IVb. 2. Tho announce-I merit that Freil'iio Welsh is willing" t" lox Charlie White aeriin for th- world's j lightweight championship is enough to !
send the oohl fhivors ohusing tlnniselws up and down h fight fan's spin-1. It i coming too close for temperament. il beenfit; soinetine might le trying to put on the bout mul use that method of bringing it before the publie. Charlie White Isn't tho man to meet 1'reddie Welsh lor the lightweight iitle. He Iih.o had many chances and not imct
made good. On one occasion he tncUb d the job user the twenty-round route and made such ;i flat failure of it that he wasn't even considered when It Canute, discussing the referee's decision. It's too bud that White can t develop into :t real contender for Welsh's title.. Hut he can't and that ends the discussion. He isn't aggressive enough. I'ndoubtedly if he got close enough and could be induced to conic out of hypnotic state long enough he would slip the old left hand over and it would bmi tains for Welsh. Hut Welsh is far too clever ami smart to permit the left
hand to connect with his jaw. Welsh j hiiu :elf saiil after the recent bout at j Cokrado Springs that he would tight While by the hour instead of by thej round, and would gaurantee to step all' over the Chicago boy. j White is a mr.it ly :i gains' any one , he cant hit. If he ( nil -slide clos : enough and gel his feci in the right posit h .a it is within his power to crush! the hi. pes of any lightweight. '.ul there j tire sccral lightweights who can k'-ep t several paces distant from White ami j still pepper him with right and left I hand bb.ws. He's just a bit loo slow I to ever catch a man who is good enoughIn wear the lightweight crown.
