Bruno Pager of Indiana Harbor who has been doing missionary work at Hessville Is the presiding offlcr and will very likely receive the call for permanent residence after the church is built and the congregation is fully organized. It is planned to erect a concret building about 34 by 60 feet with a full basement. Most of the work will be done by the parishonsrs. The building will cost approximately t.000. 0f this amount $1,600 Is already subscribed by the limited number who have been canvassed. The congregation will have from forty to fifty families, most of whom attended church In the surrounding cities, mainly In Hammond. Hessville. pioneer community of North tov.nship, having for years contributed to the growth and prosperity of the cities vlilch have sprung up around It, has decided to do something for Hessville In a religious way. Some of the town's best known families have banded together and formed the First Evangelical Lutheran Concordia chu-ch, and such Is the eagerness of the people for the project that ground for it may be broken next week. Providence was kind enough to permit Mrs. Elisabeth Hess, one of the founders of the congregation. live long enough to see her friends and neighbors work out definite plan for organization and building. She donated the building lot on School street, 75 by 166 feet, north of the new public school, to help the good cause along, and her many friends In the congregation will always.hold her In grateful memory for

Cox. W. F. Bridge. Roscoe Woods', Attorneys L. Li. Uomberger. P. E. Boone. D. J. Moran, 11. E. Granger, M. D. Met. Charles R. Dyer. Judge E. I. Ames. W. . Paiton. W. A. Hill, and Willis Ford, the latter havlns acted as secretary. Attorney Room? related his election Into the city- council on a non-partisan ticket from the Eleventh ward and said that It Is absolutely necessary that

the city's biggest men, to respond to the call, when drafted Into service for the city either as mayor or councilman. He emphasized the need of big men in the council. The spirit of the whole meeting was that the time had come In the affairs of Hammond when the office must seek the man, and that the man must respond for the good of the city. The matter of party politics having been settled the question today arises how nominations' should be made. Under the present primary law only parties which figured in the last election are entitled to th benefits of a primary. The proposed Greater Hammond or citizens party not having been in existence in the last election cannot participate In the primary to be held March . Thre remains therefore no other alternative but a single party primary the expenses of which are to be defrayed by private subscription, or a convention nomination. The delay in making nominations is in accord with the spirit of last night. It will give the mo vement an opportunity to sink in. it Is pointed out, whereas entries for the regular pri

maries must be filed with the city clerk Mthin fh next week or ten days. The

action taken last night does not bar any republican from filing his application and running for a republican nomination. The consensus of last night and today a to arrange for a big mass meeting to be held with the approach of warmer weathrr, and to go about selecting candidates for the new ticket in a. most deliberative manner.

Elections in Indianapolis are to be held In March. A short debate preceded the adoption. A motion to force the house committee holding the woman's suffrage Mil to report at the next session was killed. The committee is unfavorable to suffrage and is charged with attempting to smother the bill. Speaker Eschbach warned committees they were not allowed to cover up bills.

At 12:10 last Monday morning. Merchant Policeman Lewis of Indiana Harbor discovered that the plate glass door in the Illinois Jewelry store at 3331 Michigan avenue had been broken and apparently a robbery had occurred. This store Is owned and managed by Berkovitz who with his wife was in Chicago. The officer notified the police station and an investigation was made. The loss could not be determined, however, until Mr. Berkovitz returned. Later It was found that about sixty watches had been taken, twelve to fifteen rings and a number of valuable stick pins, the whole representing a loss of approximately one thousand dollars. In the store, remaining untoched,' there was a $90 diamond ring, a watch valued at $100 and many other valuable watches and pieces of jewelry. From the fact that the opening made by the brick which was used to smash tho glass front was small and because of the fact that only a limited amount of loot was taken, it was though by the officers to have been the work of boys. Teleerams were sent all over the
