Hundreds of Teams to Fight it Out Lake Co. Enters Six Teams.
MARTINSVILLE. IND., Jan. 24. Announcement of the number of teams that will compete in the preliminary rounds of the Indiana State High School Athletic Association's annual basket ball tournament makes it certain that this year's play has atracled more fives than ever before competed. According to Permanent Secretary A. L. Trester. who has completed the task of districting- the state and passing upon the thirty-five applications for membership handed in at Saturday evening's meeting of the board of control at Indianapolis, there will he 1114 high schools represented in the preliminary rounds so many that it has been found necessary to divide the state into twenty districts. Last year 198 teams were entered and the elimination rounds were played in sixteen centers. This year's total makes an increase of sixteen teams and means that four more than went to Bloomington for the finals will be sent in March. The Centers Selected. rranklin, Oreencastle, Kendallville, JCokomo, X.afayette, Lebanon, Logansport, Martinsville, Newcastle, Richmond, South Bend, Valparaiso, Vincennea and Washington. "Long Shot Morse" Dies in Montana. p . , , HELENA, MONT., Jan. 24. Quiller None, noted years ago as "Long" Shot Morse," crack rider for Karens Daly, when tho horses of that magnate were piling: up tnrf victories, died here yesterday. 'He was 65 years old and leaves a family. He rode for the last time at the Montana state fair last fall and was taken ill a few days later.

L. Lambert's football charaoion-
tihip trophy. A statue jrlorifying the football hero has recently been completed by J. L. Iambert, a sculptor of note, and it will be used next season as a trophy to be awarded to the school whose team is named by experts to be the season's winner. 1917 will be the first year that a championship trophy has been awarded to the sealon leading football team and the Lambert statue will adorn the school's halls. The eastern schools will be the only ones competing for trie trophy.
