Federal conservation of the crude oil supply of this country Is urged by those who are at the head ot the petroleum Industry and awake to the seriousness of the situation. The operation of upward of 2.500.000 automobiles In the United States consuming upward of SO. 000, 000 bnrrels of gasoline a year is the great factor which is causing the rapid exhaustion of the oil supply. It is posible to see from statistics assembled In regard to the future extent of oil production In this country and from commercial estimates of the annual consumption of fuel and lubricating oils in the years to come that the source cf petroleum may be exhausted within the lifetime of one of Uncle Barn's citizens! Should this occur, and It will, unless a kindly providence Intervenes, behold the havoc that will be wron&ht upon the face of the earth. When the last pool of oil Is consumed, llsthts

Petroleum experts are painting dreary pictures of an oilles future and they go so far as to state that their pictures will shortly be true to Ufa unless the Government takes a hand in the eanie and dictates a few radical measures. So Uncle Sam is netting his experts to work to find a solution for the Impending trasrrdy. The Geological Survey has computed estimates that cover our possible future supply of petroleum from the oU-beariny area. The survey announces the startling news that the supply Is only sufficient to last from twenty-seven to thirty years at the present rate of consumption; It Is admitted that these figures do not tell the whole story, as the rate of consumption is bound to increase as the years go by and the automobile output enlarges.
