Mies Margraret Ladd of Texas came back to the United States the other day after two years in Europe studying dancing", and this Is something of what she broug-ht. The war did not prevent Miss Ladd from learning the very best stera of the very best dancers of Europe, and when she appeared on the chilly roof of a New York hotel the other day to show what she had learned she created something of a sensation. It was pretty cold on the roof, but she danced rapidly enough to keep warm.

Several thousand employes of the
steel corporation at Garv. who -nlan
to buy stock, especially the common, who hoped that the bears would push the common down to 90 (and then have it sent up again after they had made their purchases) are doomed to
disappointment. Common will be sold o nthe Installment plan at 107 Instead of 85 as was the price last year. Some of the Gary employes. who
have been buying the stock for years and who have shared in the bonuses.
get quite an income from it. Many officials hold thousands of dollars worth of stock. A watchman at on
of the mills draws $300 a year In bonuses and dividends from his ac
crued shares.
A Chicago dispatch says: "United States Steel officials and
employes wil be given an opportunity
to subscribe for the common shares of the corporation at 107 this year, which is three-quarters of a point under the
closing quotation for the stock on the
New York Stock Exchanga yesterday.
W nlle tins cannot be regarded as
a valuation which the management of
the steel corporation places on Its
Junior shares, yet it is a fair criterion
compared with the prices fixed for subscription by officers and employes in other years.
"It will be recalled that a year ago
the shares were offered to the steel
corporation employes and the officers
at 85. This was slightly below the
market price at that time, as the price announced yesterday was fractionally
lower tnan tne market ruling quota-
"The shares last year receded sharp
ly after the offering to employes for
subscription at 85. so that the price fixed is not to be taken In any way
as a guaranty that the market will not
go lower.
"It is an indication, however, that
the market price will go higher than
107; otherwise the offering would not be in the least attractive.
"This offering is restricted this year
to 33.000 shares and is open, as usual, to officers and employes of the corporation and Its subsidiaries. This profit-sharing feature has been an annual event of the steel corporation for several years."
