In this charming: evening sown, of which panniers are the unique feature, silver embroidered fishnet and pink velvet are used to good effect. The sleeves, if such they can be called, can be described as reversed kimona sleeves, something1 quite individual to Paui Poiret, the designer of the gown. At the meeting of the Chamber of Commerce directors last' evening a committee was named to supervise the expenditure of the funds to be received for local charity at the municipal

Christmas tree on Saturday evening.

Owing to the high cost of living Crown Point has quite & number of deserving poor this year and the donations will be used for their benefit. The ladles on the committee as named last evening are as follows: Mesdames Wheaton. Meeker. Wheeler and Krost Fred A. Ruf who has gained a wide reputation as a raiser and breeder of blooded chickens, and who has captured a long list of prizes at chicken shows, has purchased a prize winning bird exhibited at the recent chicken show at the Coliseum In Chicago. Mr. Ruf makes a specialty of the White Wyandotte variety and the bird shipped him and received yesterday will greatly enhance the value of his pens before the season is over. , Some and see the cantata, "Santa Claus, at Grandma's. given by the members of the Presbyterian Sunday school. Sunday evening, Dec. 24, at 7 o'clock. A ten-piece orchestra led by George Smith, will .open the program and Miss Helen Hlxon will sing preceding the cantata. The Crown Point business men who had stock in the Pugh store enterprise, which fell by the wayside in getting established in Crown Point, received the glad news last evening that they would be reimbursed In full to the amount of their Investment. Attorney Fred Sissnls represented the local stock holders and succeeded in getlng a satisfactory settlement with the Chicago concern. The Winer shirt factory on Main street has closed down until the first of the year. Mr. Winer, the proprietor, intends to take a trip through the

south. The employes will be given a two or three weeks vacation until the factory opens for business during the early part of January. Mrs. O. Rose left yesterday for St. Petersburg. Fla.. where she will spend the winter month with her daughter and son-in-law. Mr. Rose Is figuring on making the trip later in the season. Misses Bessie and Millicent Hart arrived on Sunday from Denver, Col.. where Millicent has been for three years. She will return to the west soon after the holidays. Postitcaster Hein and his corps of clerks and assistants are kept on the Jump these days handling the immense amount of Christmas mall, the parcel post deliveries this year being greater than ever experienced before. The publlo schools will close on Friday for a two weeks' vacation and fitting Christmas exercises will be held in most of the grades. Sbme of Crown Point's citizens are rather lax about cleaning the now off the walks and an effort will be made to enforce the Ordinance passed by the city council last winter dealing .with the jjuestlon of cleaning walks.
