Wheat jumped up sharply in the last hour of trading today when the government reports reached the exchange stating- that the crop conditions on December 1 were S3. 7 per cent as against 90.2 per cent over a ten-year period. By United Press. CinCAGO, Dee. IS. Wheat had a flight falling; off today on lower cables and general selling. Larger Australian offerings increased the bearish sentiments in the rain pit. After a slightly higher opening December was unchanged at noon. Corn had a steady undertone and showed gains. Oats started higher but lost on later selling. . Illy I nl(rd Pre,s.( CHICAGO. Dec. 18. Low temperatures caused firmness in the market for butter and eggs at Chicago today and fresh receipts sold at stronger prices. Coid storage offerings however, met with a moderate demand and were no better than steady. Receipts of butters were 4.9S0 tubs and of eggs. 2,474 cases. There was an active trading in the market for foultry, fancy, fat dressed turkeys made firmer prices.

An unknown man, "who goes by the name of "Joe," while in Walter Bober's saloon, ill Emlyn Place, last night, crabbed $11 from a table and ran from the place. The money belong-ed to William Carrig-jr who gave chase. Carrig caught up with the thief who attacked him with some unknown weapon. In the fight which ensued.
Carrig: was hit o'ver the head, the point of the weapon penetrating his skull I and sinking into tho brain. j The police were called and picked tip the injured man who was treated by Dr. Townsley and taken to St. Margaret's hospital where he still lingers between life and death. His condition is very serious. The man who committeed the assault has not been apprehended. He has been at this saloon a number of times, but no one has yet been found who knows his true name. Omaggi Examined. Attilio Omaggi. the Italian who made an attempt on the life of G. Morelli. Friday night, is under examination in the city court of Kast Chicago today. Quierrino Omaggi. who was arrested at 4909 Alexander avenue as an accomplice, has been released. He claimed that the only part he played in the affair was to act as bis uncle's messenger. He went to Morelli earlier in the day to get an answer to tho demand for the hand of the daughter, Paulina. Later Omaggi was bound over to the superior coUrt on two charges. on5 with intent to kill G. Morelli and the other with intent to kill Officer Michael Gorman. Eonas were fixed at 15.000 on each charge. Charged With Holdup. One colored man, who gives his name as William Gardner and his address as 203 E. 37th street. Chicago, and two unknown colored women are
charged w-ith holding up John Arlichane, Indiana Harbor, and robbing him of J24. The robbery occurred near the corner of Block and Watling streets. Ti -: negro is said to have held the arms the victim while the women lifted h.p. pockets. Captain Ptruss and Officer Kemp;;: were on the case and landed Gardner but the women had disappeared, notwithstanding a most thorough search in every conceivable quarter of that locality. Two witnesses who saw t'i:robbery are also held. Accused Of Forgery. John Kovidzinski, employed in the butcher shop at 139th and Celar streets, Indiana Harbor. Is charged with the forgery of a thirteen do'.lav check on the First Trust and Savings Bank, 137th and Cedar streets. The shop is run by Frank Rudzinski and he gave John a pay check for $1S. John had it cashed by a messenger, Walter Wasilowski. Then John. as alleged, forged a second cheek, an attempted duplicate of the first on. This one he also sent to the bank by Walter Wasilowski. While the forgery was a fairly good one. yet it did not pass the scrutiny of the paying teller and was turned down. The police were called and Kovidzinski is now awaiting an examination. '
