Mr.' Hough, who wrote the book of "The Four Husbands." derived his most fame perhaps from his "The Time, the Place and the Girl," r musical comedy success that was played on both continents.

LIBRARY BOARD HOLDS MEETING An interesting seccion of the Hammond library board this week resulted In the transaction of some Important business for the library which Is growing by leaps and founds until the directors are faced with problems of enlargement or a new building. Miss Grace Kingwill was promoted to the position of librarian of the new branch soon to be established and Miss Etta Muenich was promoted to first assistant librarian. Official sanction was given to an order for 100 of the latest books of fiction which it is hoped to have in by the holidays. The library is now at its greatest period of the year In the matter ,of attendance and is a busy place from 4 p. till it closes.

That the vehicle Is absolutely shod proof was demonstrated In a 150-mile drive from the factory ot the Rock Falls Manufacturing Company in Sterling, 111., to Hammond last Tuesday. Dan Brown, the company's salesman, riding with George Emmerling. who piloted the machine out of the. factory to Hammond, tossed a small, bundle on the cot in the patient's compartments. After ten miles he noticed the bundle had not yet Jolted off and from then his interest grew to' see how long the package would hold its place. There are some bad stretches of road between Hammond and Sterling, bad enoUgh to test any spring, but in the 130 miles not enough jars had been carried to the cot to jolt the little package from its original resting place. With such easy riding qualities, and speed and power aplenty, Mr. Emmerling now feels prepared for any emergency, day or night.

AT DeLUXE FRIDAY The scene in which Louise HuIT finds her husband dead, which is one of the most pathetic incidents In the Famous Players Paramount production "The Reward of Patience," at DeLuxe Frlda-y very nearly proved the undoing of Miss Huff. The man who played her father in that scene was unfortunately bitten by a mosquito while "playing dead." and he was forced to move, thus spoiling the scene. When it was re-tak'eii, a fly descended upon his nose, and he could not refrain from moving again. By this time Miss Huff was nearly cried out, and Director Robert G. Vlgnola was losing his temper. But the third attempt proved successful, and all went well.
