Meat forms uric acid which excites and ovtrworka the kidneys in their ef. forts to Alter it from the system. Regular eaters of meat must flush the kidneys occasionally. You must relieve them like you relieve your bowels; removing all the acids, waste and poison, else you feel a dull misery In the kidney region, sharp pains in the back or sick headache, dizziness, your stomach sours, tongue is coated and when the weather is bad you liave rheumatic twinges. The urine Is cloudy, full of sediment; the channels c ften get irritated, obliging you to get up two or three times during the night. To neutralize these irritating acids and (lush off the body's urinous waste get about four ounces of Jad Salts from any pharmacy; take a tatolespoonful in a glass of water before breakfast for a few days and your kidneys will then act fine and bladder disorders disappear. This famous salts Is made from the acid of grapes and lemon jui(v. combined with lithia, and has been used for generations to clean and stimulate sluggish kidneys and stop bladder irritation. Jad Salts is inexpensive; harmless and makes a delightful efT-irvesc.nt lithla-water drink which millions of men and women taku now and then, thus avoiding serious kidney and bladder diseases. Adv.

j when did Hamburg become a free city? Are there any other cities in Germany j that are free? How are the free cities ; governed? Do the people of free cities

; have to take part in the war?

! The German empire is made up of

four kingdoms, six grand duchies, sev

en principalities, three free Hanse cities

and the "Reichsland" of Alsace-Lor

raine. Hamburg has been a free city since early medieval times and was one of the founders of the Hanssatic

League of Free Cities in the thirteenr.h century. The other free cities of Ger

many, both dating back, with Hamburg, to the medieval Hanse league, are Bremen and Lubeck. As integr.il parts of the empire these cities are, of course, bound to take their part in the

war. The free cities are self governing, as are the other German states, except in matters which have to do with the empire as a whole, which are taken up by the representative parliament and the kaiser. A small amount of rural territory attaches to each of the Hanse towns. Will you please tell me the meaning and derivation of the words chauvinism and chauvinist? A chauvinist is one who is absurdly Jealous of his country's honor or puffed up with an exaggerated sense of national glory. The words "chauvinist" and "chauvinism' are taken from the name of Nicolas Chauvin, a soldier of Napoleon, who was so notorious for his exaggerated and demonstrative devotion to the imperial cause that he was caricatured on the stage, and his name came to stand for all people who work mischief by their unreasoning, irascible and vainglorious patriotism.

GARY OFFICER TALKED WITH MANIAC

Dftcrtive Serseaut Ceorga Lee of the Gary police department talked for some time yesterday morning- with Mike Inik. the maniac, who shot up the Hammond court house yesterday, wounding: Judge Greenwald, Bailiff re Bow and Juror Robinson and missing fire on Trosecutor Tatterson. Mr. Lee noticed that Inik was armed with a sword, but when he saw that he seemed to be acquainted with court attaches and they responded to his greetings he changed his mind about calling attention of officers to the "harmless"' foreigner.
