Many doctors and nurses frankly recommend Musterole for sore throat, bronchitis, croup, stiff neck, asthma, neuralgia, congestion, pleurisy, rheumatism, lumbago, pains and aches of the back or joints, sprains, sore muscles bruises, chilblains, frosted feetcolds of the chest (it often prevents pneumonia). WHAT ABOUT CONKEY AVENUE? Do you know that there are seven stores on Conkey avenue between the Monon and Erie railroad tracks; all doing a good business ? ; Do you knowT that seven lots have been sold for business purposes on Conkey avenue in the past month, and that not less than -five one and two-story business blocks will be erected on the street next spring? , Do you know that one hundred new homes indicating a new population of five hundred people, have been built in the territory around Conkey avenue in the past year or so ? The New South Side Business District Growing There is nothing unusual about the development of a business district on Conkey avenue. Hammond is getting to be a big town. There are five or six thousand poeple right around this portion of Conkey avenue that are a mile and a half from the downtown business district of Hammond. There are certain neighborhood needs that have got to be taken care of in this rapidly growing district that can't, be left to the downtown business man- The housewife is corning more and more to do her own shopping. Telephone ordering is wasteful.' When she buys head lettuce or a grapefruit she wants to pick it out. The Conkey avenue district does not aspire to be a State street or a Hohman street;' not yet. But there are certain lines of business that could be carried on profitably on Conkey avenue. Some of these are as follows: Drugstore. 1 Produce market. Shoe repair shop. Tailor, pressing. Delicatessen. Garage. Bakery shop. Restaurant. Butter, eggs and poultry. In addition to the above a number of branch stores ought to be established .covering such lines of business as cleaning and dyeing, laundry, postal substation, coal office. Then there are a number of lines of business such as plumbing and heating, hardware and paint, oil and wall paper that could be very successfully conducted on Conkey avenue instead of going into competition with similar lines of business in the down town districts. BUT WHY CONKEY AVENUE? Several people discovered, all at once, that Conkey avenue is the only street on the whole south side that is available as a business street on account of building restrictions in neighboring districts. Homcwood, Kenwood, Hyde Park, Franklin addition, Highland addition, Calumet Heights additions arc all residential neighborhoods. Most of them are highly restricted. The invasion of any of them with store buildings would be deeply resented and would cause a loss of patronage. AND SO IN ALL OF THIS WIDE, POPULOUS TERRITORY; THIS TERRITORY THAT HAS SEEN MORE BUILDING ACTIVITY THAN ANY OTHER SECTION OF HAMMOND, THERE CAN BE BUT ONE BUSINESS STREET. Conkey Avenue the Sixty third Street of Hammond If you had to pav fancv prices for these lots .you might hesitate to make an investment, but Hastings, Woods & Co. are able to offer eiglit Conkey avenue business lots for $400.00 each. All assessments are paid in full. THINK OF IT! A BUSINESS LOT ON CONKEY AVENUE WHERE YOU CAN BUILD A LITTLE STORE, START WITH A SMALL STOCK AND GROW UP WITH THE DISTRICT. THINK OF IT! A REAL BUSINESS LOT ON THE CAR LINE FOR THE PRICE OF A RESIDENTIAL LOT. DON'T WAIT UNTIL NEXT SPRING WHEN HALF A DOZEN STORE BUILDINGS WILL BE STARTED AND EVERYBODY ELSE GETS EXCITED. TAKE OUR TIP ON CONKEY AVENUE. IT IS THE ONE PLACE IN HAMMOND WHERE YOU CAN GET A REAL BUSINESS LOT FOR $400.00 AND ON TERMS. It is our purpose to develop two solid blocks of business houses. These stores will all be together and one will bring buiness for the other. This will be much better than scattering business houses. Come in and let us tell you of plans that have already resulted in selling many of these lots. HASTINGS, WOODS & COMPANY OFFICE: Hammond Savings & Trust Co. 597 Hohman Street. Phone Hammond 51
