J. Carpenter and Mrs. Carl visited at the home of Frank Washington Park, on Friday.

The Knights of Pythias will nave their annual convention at Indiana Harbor tomorrow at which a number of the K. of P.'s of Whiting wilt be present. There will be an open meeting tomorrow afternoon, which the Pythian Sisters of Whiting will attend in a body. Jonn Poppen who was injured in an accident at the Hammond Oil Co. on Friday, was removed to the Passavant hospital in Chicago on Saturday. Mr. Poppen had his leg crushed in which it is thought several bones have been fractured. Mr. Poppen had the) same leg broken in an accident a year ago and a few years ago suffered the loss of an eye in his work as boilermaker. The regular meeting of the Pyhian Sisters was held on Friday night, after which a banquet was served as a resuit of the close of the recent membership contest. The two sides in the contest were led by Mrs. P. J. Carpenter and Mrs. Arthur Stress. Tne losing side, led by Mrs. Carpenter, banquetted the winning side with an elaborate two-course banquet, there being thirty-seven gathered around the festive board. The funeral of John Valucha, age 45. of 523 121st street, who was the victim in the accident at the Standard Oil Co. on Friday, was held yesterday under the direction of Undertaker Baran. Services wehe held at St. John's Slavok church by Fa.ther Benedict. Interment was at St. John's cemetery.
