Canadian troops being: reviewed by General Sam Hughes just before leaving for the front. With the closing of the summer training camps in Canada, the movement of troops to the battlefields of Europe to fill the devastated ranks has begun in earnest. This is the first division of Canadian troops to leave the camps a finished product ready for war.

People of Laie county, especially those that in the past frequented 151st street. East Chicagro. will be Interested to know that the bridge on this thoroughfare across the canal is all competed and that nothing remains to be done excepting the paving of the approaches. This bridge has been under construction for a long time and some Impatience has been expressed at the delay. The contract, which was obtained by the Phee Construction company, approximated JS5.000. The bridge is a double leaf bascule bridge and it Is said that the job is a very satisfactory one. The one thing that now remains in order to make this street a success, is for the city to take steps to widen the

Kvery mother realizes, after giving hr children ''Calif ornia Syrup of iMgs," that this is their ideal laxative, because they love its pleasant taste and it thoroughly cleanses the tender little stomach, liver and bowels without griping. When cross, irritable, feverish or breath is bad, stomach sour, look at the tongue, mother! If coated, give a teaspoonful of this harmless "fruit laxative," and in a few hours all th-i foul, constipated waste, sour bile and undigested food passes out of the bowels, and you have a well, playful chlid again. When its little system Is full of cold, throat sore, has stomachache, diarrhoea, indigestion, colic. remember, a good "inside cleansing" should always be the first treatment given. Mi'.Iions of mothers keep "California Syrup of Figs" handy; they know a teaspoonful today saves a sick child tomorrow. PLEDGES TO PEOPLE TO BE KEPT (Continued from Page One) and upon the adoption of such amendment, we pledge ourselves to a thorough revision of our system of taxation to the end that all property and persons shall bear equitably the burdens of govpm in e n t a 1 s u p p o r t. We favor the amendment of the constitution so as to authorize the Governor to veto any single or more items in any appropriation bill; and also prohiobiting the increasing of any official salary for the term of the office, whether held by election or appointment. AYe favor the abolishment of all bodies and officers not essential to the proper administration of the affairs of the state. The Republican party has been at all times the friend of labor, as witness the many laws of the

state and nation for the welfare of working men and women. We are opposed to the evils of child labor and favor the enac.ment of such legislation as will eliminate

such abuse. We Pi': ."T;r"'I to' rda.. 'u -on-v'.ct mail" root's in comp-.tition with the products of free, labor. The pre si nt state wide primary lav.' 1-us p.'c-vtid ui.!SSi.'i.!af-.ctry ami expensive to the people. It shi-iiid be amended so as to simplify it and make It less expensive,. To this the Republican party piedgi-s itself. Our system of road construction and maintenance is no longer suited .o the present needs and should be reformed. The great waste must be stopped. We need a system that will securflasting material and skillful. economic supervision and work in the construction and maintenance of our public roads. All the people in the state should contribute toward tiie improvement of the roads of the

state. We also favor co-operation with the federal government in the building and upkeep of mail routes and other roads of general use. We believe In a large degree of home , rule for cities, and to that end favor the enactment of a law that will permit cities to adopt a commission or city manager form of governmentWe favor the enactment of a simple and efficient Impeachment law, that inefficient and corrupt ptiblie officers speedily may be removed from public office. The Republican party stands for law observance and law enforcement. W econdemn the laxity existing among the executive officers and police authorities in many of our larger cities in the matter of enforcing respect for the laws cf the state. And we pledge ourselves to its strict enforcement. We recommend that the next legislature take, proper steps for the reform and simplification of methods of legal procedure in the courts throughout the state. We favor the separation "f the judiciary from partisan politics, and recommend that the election of the judiciary, if made at the general election, shall be upon separate tickets without any party emblem. It is understood that bills to carry out all of the party platform pledges will be prepared and that tiiey will be ready for introduction as soon as the coming session of the legislature is opened. It Is the plan of the partyleaders to put through all of the platform bills as early in the session as possible, in order that there may be no slip in the program. One of the important bills to be introduced in compliance with platform pledges is one for the creation of a state highway department. It will Do introduced by Luke W.
