Ambulance Surgeon O'Conner. Ambulance Surgeon O'Conner, one of the youngest doctors at Bellevue hospital. New York, saved the life of ten-months-old iVinifred Linderman by breathing into the lungs of the unconscious child for ten minutes after it had been given up for dead. The baby had been overcome by gas.

John Miller, Jr.. transacted business In Chicago, Thursday. Miss Veronica Dewes was a Hammond visitor Thursday. Mrs. Peter Schaller spent Thursday with 'ner daughter at Cook. Mrs. Frank Austgen was an out of town visitor Friday. George Hoff of Chicago, transacted business here Friday. Bernard Hilbrich of Schererville, has moved his family and household goods Into his home here. Among the Hammond visitors Friday were Miss Bosina Keilman and August Willy. Mr. Willy sold a load of corn in Hammond for $1 a bus'aeL On the face of the official returns St. John almost turned a political flipCop on election t day, coming wit'nin nine votas of going republican on the presidential ticket. In the St. John precinct No. 1. Wilson received but 58 votes against Hughes' 50. On the county ticket, however, St. John went normally democratic with a three to one vote.

Abe C&llnar who was so badly hurt In Gary last Friday by being struck by & street car, was able to be brought home yesterday afternoon. He is getting along as well tts can be expected. Mrs. Harriet Drury left yesterday for Alhambra. Cal.. where she goes to visit her daughter, Mrs. H. M. Esty. She will viBit reiatlves in Kansas on her way out. Mrs. Ed Ebert went to Chicago last evening to visit relatives for a few days. Solomon Spry who has been in the hospital at Hammond for t'ne past two weeks, was able to come home yesterday morning.
