A STL'DV MEETING. The members of the art committee of tn Ha.mmond Woman's Club will meet this afternoon at the home of the chairman. Mrs. M. Rothschild In South Hohman street for their regular semimonthly study meeting'. The study subject will be American Sculpture and the program for the afternoon will t in charge of Miss Maude Smith. A THIMBLE PARTT. Mrs. David Emery is entertaining the members of the Kmbroldery Club at her home In "Walt'aara street this afternoon. On account of the holidays the meeting- was held today instead of next Monday which is t the regular meeting day. The afternoon will be devoted to needle work. A CHRISTMAS SALIC The members of the Martha Society of the First Christian church will hold a Christmas sale In the O. K. building at the corner of-Muenlch Court and Hohman street Tuesday and "Wednesday, December llth. and 17th. and cordially invite the public to attend. The proceeds of the sale will be used for the benefit of the church. The members will have for sale articles of needle work, home bakery, home made candles and canned fruits. A cafeteria lunch will be served noon and evenln j of both days. AW AFTERNOON TEA. The members of the Dorcas Lodge of Kebekahs will give an afternoon tea Tuesday, December 16 th at the home of Mrs. Van Or man, 41f Michigan avenue to which they cordially invite the pub lic. Dainty refreshments will be serv ed and during the afternoon the guests will enjoy games and music. HAMMOND'S PRETTIEST PICTURE THEATRE. There are pretty theatres In Hammond, but the new Aubry, North Hoh man street, near the South Shore sta tlon, is declared to be one of the pret tiest In the vicinity of Chicago. It will open next Saturday evening and the citizens of Hammond will have an opportunity to decide for themselves , whether the reports are true. Adv. ENTERTAIN INFORMALLY. The Misses Lilly and Meta Fedder will entertain a few friends Informally at their home la East State street Tuesday evening. Their guests will be the members of the H, Embroidery Club who will meet for "their regular weekly thimble party. The guests will bring their needle work to the meeting tomorrow and spend a pleasant time socially. i - MISS WAGOXBLAST A HOSTESS. At her home in Monroe street Miss Helen Wagonblast will be hostess Tuesday evening to the young women of the A. D. Q. Club. It will be the regular semi-monthly meeting of the club and needle work will be a feature of the evening. A CHRISTMAS PARTY. The members of the E. S. T. Club will have their Christmas party Tuesday afternoon of this week at the home of Mrs. Claude Palmer in May street. The Christmas party given by the Hammond Woman's Club for the children of its members was a very successful affair. About seventy-five children came, each bringing a doll or a toy to be given to some less fortunate child at the Christmas tree entertainment to be held by the Woman's Club Monday evening, December 15. Mrs. Ralph Ross, the president of the club, presided over a short business session and never appeared to

During the business meeting Mrs. Rellly announced that the Orpheum Theater had offered to give Its entire proceeds for Christmas eve and Christ mas day to the Settlement House and she proposed that the Woman's Club buy fifty tickets and distribute them to the poor children of the city. Turner announced that the memorial pictures for Mrs. Ernest Tillman and Mrs. J .A Davis "Notre Dame" by Francis Beckert and "On The Danube" by Weber "nave . been hung- In the Hammond Public Library. No doubt the little guests were glad when the business part of the meeting was over and they could listen to the delightful program which had been prepared for them by Mrs. A. W. Hill. The Irving School Orchestra opened the program by playing a spirited Schottlsche. This orchestra which is composed of five boys, was organised year ago by Miss Iva Titus and al ready plays as well as many orches tras of far more advancement. The boys making up the orchestra are.O. Harold Hathaway, Harold Mulligan, j Will Davis, Frank Cole and George ' Mcclain. 1 "The Fir Tree," a beautiful Christ mas story was read to the attentive children by Mrs. Frank Hammond, a.nd a cornet so ,oiwlth "My Country Tls of Thee for an encore was given by Mrs. Charles Hohman. Many of the children had never seen a woman play the cornet and after their interest in this number was great. The familiar "Holy Night" was sung charmingly by Miss Lydta Walter, and A Little Pink Rose" given for an en core. Mrs. Mae Hansen White accom panied both Mlsa Walter and Mrs. Hoh man. While the orchestra played "Rlensl" the children marched around the room by twos, to the delight of the admir ing mothers. Then the "real" party arrived ice cream and - cake were served by Mrs. Frank Bets and her as sistants. So, although one tot fell out of her chair, and one was bitterly disappointed because she had not seen Santa Claus, and another shrilly plpM out during a pause, much to- her own discomposure that she 'had a bath this morning,' the party was entirely a happy one. ENTERTAIN CLUB FRIENDS. Mr. and Mrs. C Knoth were host and hostess last Saturday evening at their home in West State street to the members of the Wentworth. Social Club. The evening was spent very unjoyably with games and contests following which a prettily appointed two course luncheon was served. Announcement of the next meeting will be made later on. On account of the holidays there may be no regular meeting of the club in two weeks. POSTPONE MEETING. The meeting of the E. S. T. Club which has announced for Tuesday has been postponed until Wednesday afternoon when Mrs. Claude Palmer will be hostess at her home in May street. It will be the club's Shrlstmas party and a "Grab Bag" will be a-feature of the meeting. The members will devote the afternoon to their needle work. A BUSINESS MEETING. This evening the- members of the Young Ladies' Sodality of All Saints Catholic church will meet in All Saints Hall in East Sibley street for an Important business session. It is desired that every member is present. Miss Florence Loverldge of Webb street was the guest of Miss Pauline Sauerraan at her home in Crown Point during the past week end. Mr and Mrs Ray Pearson spent Sunday in Chicago Mrs Newton Hembroff and daughter of Indiana Harbor were the iruests of Hammond friends and relatives Saturday afternoon They attended the meeting of the Hammond Woman's Club.

Jackson and family of Claude street this evening. ILodge Assemblies The regular meeting of the members of the Dorcas Lodge of Rebekahs took place last Saturday evening in the L O. F. Hall In East State street. There was initiation of a class of candidates following which refreshments were served and a delightful time was spent socially. A large number of members were in attendance at the meeting. The next meeting will be held Saturday evening, December SO. Tuesday aftrnoon the lodge members will have a tea at the home of Mrs. Van Orman in Truman avenue to which they Invite the public. There will be a meeting of the members of the Germanla Lodge of Rebekahs Tuesday evening In I. O. O. F. Hall in East State street. Important business will be transacted and it is desired that there Is a large attendance of the membership. Triumph Council No. 11 D. of L. will meet in the I. O. O. F. Hall in East State street for their regular semimonthly meeting A social session will be enjoyed following the business meeting. CHICAGO AND WHITING TO HEAR HAMMOND CHOIR "The Pirates of Penzance" is being rehearsed by the choir of the First Christian church as its next operatic vehicle. Under tire direction of Clark Learn ing the choir will sing Pinafore to morrow evening in -the Lyrlo Theater at East Chicago and on the following night at the Christian lhurch in Whit ing. Then Pinafore will be placed in dry dock and its crew transferred to the Pirate craft. Miss Marguerite Haefer will sing Josephine in Pinafore and James R. Graves will support her. Clark Learn ing is "Dick" of the dislocated optic THEY HAD GOOD TIME. William Devonshire, James Ballan tyne. E. M. Rupp, Calvin Scholler and J..W. Puettjer attended the annual Ma sonic pastmasters' meeting and banquet at Hammond last Saturday night, at which time more than two hundred sat down to a fine spread especially pre pared for the occasion. Many visitors from all over this territory wero pres ent. Mr. Devonshire was one of tho speakers of the evening. It was an occasion long to be remembered, es pccially by the men from Hobart, who did not arrive home until near the break o' day. Some of the boys accuse Mr. Devonshire of eating too long and. somer of them accuse him of talking too long Anyhow, they caught the last car for Indiana Harb.r in order to catch the 1 a. m. Pennsylvania train for Hobart. but when they arrived at East Chicago the conductor called out, "All out, thi3 car goes back to Hammond." The policeman on the corner in a sympathetic manner informed them the last car for Indiana Harbor had departed some time before. Therefore. It could be plainly seen, even through the heavy East Chicago fog, that it

Ho bart News. B. & 0. OFFICIALS ON TRIP OF INSPECTION Baltimore, Md., Dec 15. President Willard and a number of B. & O. offi cials left here today on an inspection tour of the road that will carry them to Chicago. The party will reach that city on Tuesday and after spending two days there will return by way of the B. & O. Southwestern and the C, H & D. The Inspections will only be made during daylight and when night comes on the train will be sidetracked. Ter minals, yards and switches will be gono over carefully by the president and his official family. The B. & O. officials are expected to bo in the Gary-district late today or tomorrow. It is -probable that the site of the big clearing yard at Miller wiU ' be looked over. ICE COMPANY GETTING READY Whiting Concern Expects to Rush Its Plant. (Special to Tub Tutsi.) Whiting, Ind.. Dec IS. The Whiting Pure Ice company, which recently was organized in Whiting, is letting no grass grow under its feet, but is getting right down to business. The company has purchased the old Manhattan Brewery building on Schrage avenue, which is to be used as a store house. The contract has now been let for the Ice plant where the ice is to be manufactured. The contract for the brick work has been awarded to Nejdl and Greenwald and the carpenter work to George L. Fedorko. Nejdl and Gteenwald have already begun work on the foundation. The machinery is expected here by January JO. The wagons to be used by, the concern are to be pure white with yellow running gear. These will be drawn by , white horses. The delivery of ice started today, the supply to be shipped in until the plant is completed. The first carload was received on Saturday and the company ST ID PI .Just placed another student
