TIMES BUREAU, AT STATE CAPITAL. Indianapolis, Ind., Dec 11. Dr. "W. F. Gott, secretary of the state board of medical examination and registration, reported to the board at Its meeting, yesterday afternoon, that he had completed his Investigation of fake medical institutes and quack doctors at Gary, and that evidence was being prepared . on which to.b.ase indictments against a number of persons. He said that one man already had been indicted. He said that conditions at Gary were deplorable, and that many persons were being duped out of money by these swindlers. One scheme which he said was worked at Gary left many a poor dupe practically penniless. He ea!d when a man called at the of ftce of one of these Institutes he was taken into a room and disrobed for examination. His clothing was left in another room, and while one "doctor" "made the ex

amination of the man another would go through the man's pockets and find out how much money he had. Then they would charge him all of his money except enough to take him back to his home. He told of one man that entered an office with $210 in his pockets. When the "doctors" were through with him he had $2 left and this was the amount required to pay his fare home. The board is also making a quiet investigation of an institution in this city. If it can find that a. licensed physician is connected with it the board proposes to revoke his license, and if the place is operated by some person not a licensed physician the board expects to prosecute him on a charge of practicing medicine without a license. , The board set January 14 as the day for hearing the case against Dr. H. A. Fink of South liend, who Is charged with Issuing to a minor a prescription for heroin tablets.

After an hours deliberation the jury in Judge Reiter's court this afternoon returned a verdict of "not guilty", for Barney Chanacker, an Indiana Harbor man, who was on trial for an alleged criminal assault upon Sofia Chszanoska. The case was bitterly contested for several days with Attorney W. A. Relland of Indiana Harbor the leading counsel for the defense. Reiland was assisted by Attorney W. J. East Gary, Ind.; Dec: 11. There is much excitement here as the result of the exhumation of the body of an infant buried in the Lake Station cemetery, :; A weird scene was witnessed here today when Deputy . Coroner Brink of Hobart, acting under instructions from Coror.er Frank Smith of Gary, dug up the remains. They ate those of the infant daughter of Mr. and IMrs. Burril Pierce, the father beiii a section foreman here. A post-mortem will be held today to ascertain the truth of a rumor that the child had died of carbolic acid poisoning. Several days ago the marshal and justice of the peace at East Gary, following the circulating of stories that the child had been poisoned, demanded that Coroner Smith make an investigation. He held an inquest and learned from the parents, the doctor and the undertaker that the child had died of natural causes, being weakly throughout its life. However, the poisoning stories would not down and today's post-mortem is expected to reveal whether the whole affair is pieced from malicious gossip or whether the child really was the victim of poison.
