CAIWIRE GIRLS ARE TAKING

SPLENDID HIKES THESE DAYS

WANTED Camp Fire Girls: Toung ladies who like to arise before .the - sun, -wear . short skirts and breath deep, hike across fields and cook breakfast over a ea-mpflre. sing Indian songs and dance the "Wigwam tango; members of a happy, outdoor, care-free well chaperoned fraternityconceived and dedicated to happiness.

Mrs. Otto H. Rabe, 36 Williams street, a guardian of Camp Fire Girls, ih is doing a great work for humanity, has a sermon to preach and is looking for new audiences. The text Am found la the wild wood and the running stream and Is as old as the hills themselves. It tells the secret of happiness, which Is no secret at all, for everyone secretly knows all about It. "Come out in the opeh and learn the Indian crafts," Mrs. Rabe says. "Healthcraft, woodcraft, . and homeraft, lead to happiness."

Ornaments to Society.

Once a week a corps of Camp Fire

Girls -go -forth -at -dawn- dressed In In

dian garb, with their hair in braids and their feet in comfortable low-heeled-shows.--Ttwy walk miles- Into the

country and prepare a simpl breakfast

of bacon; eggs and wholewheat bread

over & primitive -cimpfire from which smoke curls through the tree tops. In

the winter it Is warm in the woods if

the feet are well protected. The Camp

Fire Girls never Imprison themselves

but are clothed as nearly like Minnie

haha as it is possible for anyone who never saw that distinguished maid to

copy her. ,

Mrs. Rabe has found In her short ex

perience with Camp Fire Girls that they are becoming more ornamental to society with every hike. Before they began they were conventional, pale and

frail. Now they are strong, rosy,

smiling, clear-eyed and graceful. They

can keep stride with their boy friend

In the high school, both mentally end

i physically. .

FORMER HAMMOND

) Buffalo, N. T., Dee. 9. Justice Brown in equity term of supreme court here terminated the marital relations between Mrs. Minnie A. Pratt, formerly of Hammond, and Fred Pratt, foreman at the- Lackawanna. Steel company, by deciding- in favor of- the Hammond ypman'i husband, granting him an absolute divorce... The action originally was brought by Mrs. Pratt, who asked for a sepaartlon, declaring that; her husband declined to support her and she further charged cruel treatment

and desertion. The husband put In

counter-claim for absolute divorce and

the court ruled that Pratt had sustain

ed his charges on statutory grounds and he was granted an Interlocutory

judgment of divorce.

"1 used to see Mrs. Pratt bid her hus

band good-bye and throw kisses to him from the front door and then receive

Sam Golden at the back door two min

utes later," declared Carl A. Jacobson

of Hamburg, N. Y where the .Pratt

formerly resided. Mrs., Pratt had ad

nutted that Golden had talked to her ne afternoon about "chickens" In her

bedroom. The couple have bo children.

SELL 50 FEET

OF FRONTAGE

"The Business Iistrict Must Ex

pand," the slogan that has been adopt

ed by Hastings, Woods & Company in

their sale of business property scored

again today when that company, acting as the agents for Kaufman &

Wolf, sold to S. A. Schlessinger, man

ager of the Sterling Woolen Mills, Hammond branch, and to Proprietor Teagay of the Winner department

store on States street, fifty feet of

State street frontage in the vicinity of

Sohl street.

The consideration was $9,500. The

new owners will not Improve the property until next year. These young Hammond business men accept the

opinion of Hastings, Woods & Com

pany that the business district will expand to Sohl street and 100 feet east

of that point but no farther until Sohl street Is opened up to the north side. Hastings, Woods & Company have a number of clients who are In tho market for high grade business property and expect to close a number of deals before the holidays.
