Ross Ramey, a meat delivery man whom he met on his run for liberty. After arriving at the Jail he fought desperately and It was necessary to beat him till he surrendered from exhaustion before he could be placed in a cell in ha laiL After Fawley's return last week from the asylum It was apparent to all who talked to him that he would commit Home desperate deed unless locked up. He is possessed of a peculiar cunning and in all of his assaults on different
people he has slipped up from the-rear and knocked them down. He has scars
all over his body, which he boasts wera
received in former battles. People at Fair Oaks will not feel safe until he is

Officer Charles Rachjlnets of Indiana
Harbor left last night for Cincinnati to
arrest Steve Stanimirov, who is charg
ed with, having stolen $275 from the
cahs register of Luba Milodian, the proprietor of a barber shop Cedar and 137th street. Saanimirov previous to the theft - had been in the employ of
Milodia-a.
The crime is In the nature of an echo
of the closing of the Fowler bank. At the time of the liquidation Milodian
had a balance of $275 in that institution which was tendered him. He did not decide immediately upon which
bank he would open his account Jn, and placed the money in the meantime for
safe-keeping in his cash register. Sunday night the money was safe in teh register. Stanimirov had a key to the shop and also to the cash register, but his employer trusted him. Monday morning Stanimirov did not appear at the usual time. The day wore on without word from the man, and in the natural course of eveats Milodian had occasion to go to the cash register. He was considerably surprised to find hia money gone. "When he reported his loss to Sergeant Billy Hughes the latter instructed him to; make . a careful, investigation ' and' see whethe he. should find nothing in the way of papers' that might give a view as to where the missing man might have friends. Mi
lodian returned with an " empty en-I jf

day word was received that Stanimor-

and would consent to return without
extradition papers. Officer Rachjinet

It was thought that of a man about 28 years old, and death had probably ensued some time last night, declared Coroner Smith. Searching the clothes the police found a Northern State bank book In the name of Elias Plaska, 709 Virginia street, Gary, $3 In cash, and a Gary night school ticket. i After examining the death scene for possible traces of murder, Coroner Smith pronounced tta case one of suicide. Roaming nearby were two horses. One of these was pressed Into service and the corpse was thrown over the back of the horse and the police lead the animal for a half mile through the gloomy and darkened woods. At the end of the trail the ambulance from Jlarshall & Danculovich'a morgue met the part. Plaska evidently had taken the halter from one of the horses and then climbed the tree and hung him
self. It Is thought that he was In
ill health.
SEEKS TO CHECK
LAKE POLLUTlOfJ

Public Health Service Will
Make Inquiry in Chicago District.
Washington, D. C, Nov. 28. An In
vestigation of the pollution of the wat
ers of Lake Michigan In Illinois and
Indiana has been undertaken by the United States public health service at
the Instance of Representative Mann of
South Chicago. The congressman is
considering the advisability of seeking federal legislation prohibiting the de
posit of any refuse In the lake. "What a reflection on our clvillza
tlon is every case of typhoid fever!"
exclaimed the congressman. "With all our boasted science we are Inexcusably
lax in promoting the sanitation of com
munities. - It ought to be unthinkable
to contaminate any supply of drinking
wate Eight Mile Limit Iftmorrd.
"I have asked for this Investigation
because I have. reason to suspect thAt
the purity of the water supply of Chi
cago, Gary, and ether communities at that end of the lake is not sufficiently protected by the law requiring the dumping of dredglngs and other refuse beyond the eight miel limit. I am informed - the law Is not being enfoced, and ttiat even 1f it were the dumping should- be farther ermoved from the water intakes." A law prohibiting -the draining of sewage into the lake as proposed by Mr. Mann would compel nearly all of the shore, cities except Chicago to dispose rt-Cfielr refuse by some other method? Source of Foliation Found. Many of these communities were found by the public health service In a previous investigation to possess polluted sources of water supply. Some of them were the cities which fought the plea of Chicago to be permitted to divert additional water from Lake Michigan through the drainage canal for further protection of the city's health.
