it was decided to abandon the 150& acres located in Gary as a hunting place and to sell the land. "The growth of Chicago and Gary," said Mr. Drake at the meeting, "has robbed us of our shooting, some of our ground now being inside the city limits of Gary." Plans were made for the annual meeting to be held at the Blackstone hotel December 1, at which time the future of the club will be determined. JOHNSON'S FRIENDS ARE E Slam in Bull Moose Organ Irritates Friends of Gary Mayor-Elect; Prominent Politicians Are Hot Under Collar Also. . Friends of Mayor-elect R. O. Johnson of Gary are wondering why a Gary bull moose newspaper has started to warn and criticise him before his -term of office has started. The article, an editorial printed last night, had the caption, "Support nt home comes first" and it read as follows: "It Is about time for some Gary candidates for county and district nomination to consider that the first thing to secure ia the uspport of Gary. What shall it avail them to gain the entire county or district and lose their home city? "And Gary is going to support no candidate for office, If this paper knows the sentiment of the people, who does not make good right at home first of all in the eotaMis lament of a straightaway non-fir-tisan rule of its municipal affairs. "The 1,600 majority given the Cltisens' ticket meant Just that There is no use trying to quibloabout It." Why The Threat f While Mayor-elect Johnson has been mentioned for congress this has been done In opposition to his wishes and by certain selfish office seekrs who think that they will promote their own Interests by flattering him. That the mayor-elect should be subject to criticism because the man, "who does not make good right at home first of ail in the establishment, of a straightaway non-partisan rule" when he hasn't even assumed office has provoked much anger. Friends of Dr. Frank W. Smith, who also has been mentioned for congress, and George Manlove, the republican leader, who has been spoken of ln connection with a county judicial nomination, also take the article as a slam. Klx On That Noise However, among all it is ir, reed that Mayor-elect Johnson should give a nonpartisan rule by appointing the 'right" men to public office and that the first Intimation of his intending to do this would be by naming a certain Gary newspaper editor as comptroller and to allow him to dictate who shall be president of the board of works, chief of police, and city attorney. With Mr. Johnson doing this all agree that he would be on the right road to heaven and that the- people "would rule." Then thould Mr. Johnson name the patriotic rewspaper editor as comptroller, thereby thrusting an office onto a man, who may be called to succeed to the mayoralty at a great sacrifice It Is agreed that he will have seen the "light" and that, as Battleaze Castleman is won't to say "the Interests of the pe-pull wll lbe konsurved and good government will prevail by the pe-pull and for the pepull." HEGEWISCH VS. TORNADOS , Hegewlsch. 111.. Nov. 28. The fast Hegrewlsch football team has fought Us way to the top and tomorrow will meet the Tordanos, four-time 143pound ' champions of Chicago, at Eclipse park, Koseland. Kickoff at 2:15 sharp. This should be one of the most hotly contested games seen ln this -egion this season, aa both teams are fast and aggressive and are full of the 'fighting spirit that goes to make a game Interesting. The Hegewlch boys, while not overconfident. a?e perfectly satisfied with their chances.
