Hammond's Business District Must Expand Here is a city of 30,000 inhabitants, with an additional o0,000 people within the five-cent fare limit, doing business in two blocks on Hohman street, two on State street and in scattering stores on Calumet avenue. A thousand residences have been built in Hammond in two years. The population of the city has increased ten thousand in that time, but the development of the business district is a negligible quantitjr. Down town Hammond is but six store buildings better off. - '

Let's face the facts: Hammond merchants are today paying a maximum rental for. the poorest accommodations a city ever offered its business men. The Hammond building, the Ruff building, the Mee hotel, the Citizens' National Bank building, the Knoerzer Building, the Eder Building, the Cox building the Servian building, the Panama building and half of the Minas building are the only modern business blocks in Hammond. If State street was built up solidly from Morton court to Sohl street and Hohman street from the river to Douglas street, it would no more than absorb the present demand for store buildings. We make this assertion advisedly and propose in" the next two years to demonstrate the soundness of our judgment. Gary has built its business district ten years in advance of the actual needs of the city. Hammond's business district is five years behind its needs. The result will be that property now regarded as clear ou tof the pale will soon be part of the commercial district. When the business district of Hammond has expanded to satisfy the present needs and potential demands of the commercial interest of Hammond the resulting increases in values will make millions for the fortunate investors who buy this property. In two years of individual and co-operative operations in business property the members of the firm of Hastings, Woods & Co. sold business property for $70,500.00 to people who now -hold it for $105,500.00. In not a single instance has a client of ours regretted the purchase of property on our recommendation. ... In a series of advertisements we a re going into the Hammond business property situation. Our views will not be influenced by personal or company holdings. We are the exclusive agents for nearly $100,000.00 worth of high grade property on Calumet avenue, on State street and on Hohman street. This property is owned by divers persons; hence our analysis must be fair. v -You may not agree with our views. -You will doubtless be interested in our advertisments. We are going to thrash but the problem fearlessly. If you do agree with us you may buy some of the property we have for sale. Follow our ads and get our point of view. ...
