Chicago and prizes were also won by Mrs. F. Dunn of Chicago and Mrs. F. Kschom of Salt Lake City. The consolation prize was awarded to Mrs. F. Gournoe of Chicago. 6th. There will be semi-monthly meetings of the club and euchre will be the entertainment at each meeting. Mrs. Harriet Lemon will be the only member. The election of officers was an Important feature of the afternoon. Mrs. Frank S. Betz was chosen president and Mrs. John E. Fltsgerald, secretary. Mrs. Gates served her guests with dainty refreshments following the business session and a pleasant social hour was passed. PARENTS' CLIB MEETING. A meeting of the Parents' Club of the Lafayette school took place yesterday afternon In the kindergarten room at the corner of Sibley street and Calumet avenue. A large number of members were present to enjoy the program. The program opened with a piano selection rendered by Florence Mischke following which there was a readng by Ethel Golden. The address for the afternoon was made by Mrs. A. G. Denver, the superintendent of the West Hammond schools, whose as his subject, 'The Training of the Human Plant." The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved and a committee of five ladles was chosen to
arrange for the next club meeting.

A meeting of the members of Golden Rule Council No. 1 D. of L. took place last evening In the K. of P. Hall in South Hohman street. The State Councilor, Mrs. Mary Hayes of Whiting was a guest at the meetng. A social hour was, enjoyed following the business session. Refreshments were served during the evening. Arrangements were made for the Union meeting to be held In East Chicago early In December when the members of Triumph Council No. 11 D. of L. and Golden Ru'.e Council No. 1 D. of L. of Hammond and
the East Chicago and Whiting councils will meet together. It is expected that there will be a large class of candidates initiated on that evening. The next regular meeting of Golden Rule Council will occur in two weeks.
ANNOUNCEMENT. Hammond Tent No. 42, K. O. T. M. will hold their regular meeting in the K. of P. Hall on Hohman street tonight. Every member is urgently request to be present at this meeting, as some important subjects are coming up for discussion that will be of Interest to every member of this tent. A series

N. P. WHIST CLUB MEETS. Members of the N. P. Whist Club met last evening at the home of Dr. and Mrs. T. W. Oberlln In Warren street and re-organlzed for the winter. It was purely a business meeting. There will be semi-monthly meetings of the club, the first of the 1913-1914 season to take place Friday evening, November 7th at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Austin in Highland street. AID SOCIETY TO MEET. The regular meeting of the Ladles' Aid Society of the Monroe street Methodist chapel will take place Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. J. M. Bradford in Van Buren street. Hope for Recovery.
John Krustan, 532-144th street. East Chicago, who was severely injured at
Gibson Monday evening when he was
run down by an I. H. Belt switch en
gine, is reported gradually improving
and today it is thought that he will recover. Krustan's arm was so badly mangled that an amputation was found
necessary. The accident occurred near
the Gibson tower and Krustan was1 re moved to St. Margaret's hospital.

In a story last night, a reporter made an error in stating that C. H. Stewart came near being trapped at the Hohman street crossing when the near accident occurred at the Russell street crossing. Mr. Stewart's view was hld-
en by a box car and receiving no sign of warning from the flagman and that
