In other words, that the cltiiens slipped one over on the republicans in getting their list elected. In order to square this matter and in order to give some of the Inspectors who could not qualify a chance to resign, this situation was given a place in the compromise. Men Who Are Elected. The council last night elected the following men: First Ward First precinct, James Sullivan; second precinct, Edward Knight; third precinct, William E. Jones. Second ward First precinct, Frank. Wall; second precinct, Edwin C. Wedgewood; third precinct, Joseph Wadas. Third ward First precinct. Truman H. Skinner; second precinct. Frank W. Clinton; third precinct. Peter Whalen. Fourth ward First precinct, Henry Baum; second precinct, Richard Tangerman. Fifth ward First precinct, Newton A. Hembroff; second precinct, Christ C. Struss. Sixth ward First precinct, Frank Mtgas; second precinct, Frank Wonlak; third precinct, Paul Wittig. . Seventh ward First precinct Melvln E. Kllpatrick; second precinct, Harry Bland; third precinct. Edward Saiuskl; fourth precinct, J. C. Dickson. This election was put through.in the nature of a resolution after certain resignations of Inspectors heretofore elected had been received and accepted. It was further agreed between all parses concerned that the citizens' party, acting through its representatives, should select a Judge,' clerk, sheriff, poll book holder, challenger and watcher and that the republican party should also have the same privilege. Herein lies the only concession on the part of the citizens' party representatives. Strictly according to law, the republican party would not be entitled to any representation whatsoever on the election board. As a matter of fact, everybody concedes that this would be manifestly unfair. The republican organization has been a factor in municipal politics in East Chicago for years and this party now holds control of the county. This party today has a municipal ticket in the field and it should, without question. have representation on the machinery of the election. The fulfillment of this agreement will accomplish all in reality that both sides of this conflict desire, namely a. fair deal in receiving and counting the votes. No matter what the results of the election may be, neither side will be Justified In attempting to account for these results by accusations of fraud. If such fraud should develop, each party will have ample opportunity to take steps for suppression and to take sufficient evidence to substantiate their claims. It will be the intent of the commissioners and inspectors ,as well as of the boards of election, to conduct sn eminently fair and clean election.
