Harry Schools, a Gary negro, was on trial today before Judge Becker and a Jury, charged with having attempted the life of "Buck" Ellis, another Gary, negro. Schools pleaded self-defense on the witness stand, but was made to admit by Deputy Prosecutor Ralph Ross, who prosecuted the case vigorously, that he had a police record. H. E. Granger, the county poor attorney, defended Schools.
