OOWKS FOR DIXXEIt AXD TUB THEATRE. Br Maude Hull. New York, Oct. 15. Bright colors are o much the vogue in Paris that all evening affairs are carnivals of colors. Vivid hues are having their Inning as never before and the fashionable materials with their highly finished surfaces lend additional beauty to the entire scheme. Frills and flounces, draperies and plattlngs are In great demand. It 13 true that it requires comparative little, to make a dress, but that littl must be handled so carefully that it requires the hand of an artist of acecmplish the results that make great dressmakers. The minaret modes are all the rage, but the woman who adopts them with modifications will find herself dressed in much better taste than the sister who goes in for extremes. They give

an opportunity for the employment of band trimmings, for there is scarcely a minaret flounce that is not finished with a row of sable, mink or chinchilla; the cheaper, yet always effective

counterpart of the pelts is marabout, which is dyed in many imitations and looks very pretty. There Is something that is just what Is should be about the dark bands of fur on bright silks and satins. So many reds and greens are used at present that they would be bizarre were It not for the subduing tones of the dark furs, which, however, are employed with no thought of "toning down" fashionable hues. The chief idea of the dressmakers is to bring

out contrasts of as decided type as possible. The demand for contrasts, by the way, is responsible for some wonderful striped effects. There have appeared during the past few weeks dresses of silk with satin stripes about an inch and a half wide and at at least two inches apart. Of course it takes a tall graceful woman to affect such materials, but they! are striking with combinations of velvet brocades, brocaded crepe de chene, etc. Bordered chlfflons are very beautiful indeed and are made into exquisite evening frocks. "VVihlte. with black borders, dark blue with black borders and very bright tones with borders of the same color in very dark tones are highly fashionable. They are employed with exquisite laces and embroideries, used to the best advantage possible on simple models. The

smart trend Is still toward simplicity, although there are those who say that

they fall to see anything simple in many of the modes of the day. The baggy fashions are growing In favor. I is not a far stretch from facts to say that in a brisk breeze some of the wearers of new frocks look like clowns, except that their frocks are very close-fitting about the

feet. Others look like balloons about the hips and waistline. One sees the blouse everywhere a,nd for all occasions. The fact that a model Is designed for ultra-dressy wear does not prelude the waist from being fashioned in blouse effect at all. Separate peplums that fall in draperies and can be worn with different skirts on a vogue that is growing out of the popularity of the blouse waist. Many times one will find these designs of crepe de chene or satin, laid in a series of small box plaits all around the figure. Again they will be multiple cos-erings of chiffon fairly hung on the wearer, blousing liberally at the sides and under the arms. There Is not the slightest attempt at a fit; even such a suggestion would be considered old-fashioned. They are merely to serve as veilings, meagre coverings as slight as the law will countenance. Practically all of them have the low neck, for collars seem to have been vanished from this sight, unless one wishes to take matters into her own hands and finish her neck to suit the individual taste. Most of the blouses, life other modes, are simplicity Itself; many are cut surplus and others open directly down the center of the front, with the opening largely concealed by the blousey effect. The bagginess of the new blousses. however, does not extend to the

back. Here, In contrast to the blouses, however, does not extern to the back. Here, in contrast to the blouses of spring and summer, the fulness is carefully adjusted. Sometimes it is gathered into a short yoke, or into shoulder pieces, but it is held in snugly at the waistline and there is none of the balloon movement across the shoulders. This general rule does not include the draped blouses, which show a certain amount of drapery in the back as well as in the front, but even in these blouses the fulness is restrained and sometimes weighted. The drapery often forms a deep point or simulated hood.

Miss Grace Thuston, who will be remembered of the name of Morris & Thurston, was seen in "The Tenderfoot" at the Orpheum theater yesterday. Miss Thurston is working without Mr. Morris this season, Mr. Morris devoting himself to the production end of the musical tabloids in the Woolfolk office in Chicago. She plays "Sally" in the cast, a lively little miss, who keeps things on the jump all the time, and her dancing is one of the features

of the show. She sings the "Soldiery" number, "At the Bully Wooly Wild West Show," and her dance with Mr. Shannon in the "Tortoured Thomas Cat" always calls for a half a dozen encores. ,Miss Thurston will also be remembered as having played with Mr. Morris last season in "Who's Little Girl Are You" which had a phenomenal run of fifty weeks out of fifty-two.
