FIRST MEETING OF THE Y EAR. (Communicated.) The History Committee of the Hammond Woman's Club held its first study meeting Monday the thirteenth at the homo of Mrs. Burk, 32 Carroll street. The subject for the day was Scotland. Mrs. Raymond Zoll opened the program with some Scotch melodies, after which Mrs. Swalm the chairman for the day told of Scotland the country. Mrs. Wall read a very inter
esting paper on the antecedents of the
Highlanders and Lowlanders. Mrs Raymond Zoll rendered Robin Adair,
a piano solo, after which she read a
paper prepared by Mrs. Roy C. Fowler,
on Education, Religion and the Sabbath in Scotland. Miss Lydla Walters sang
effectively the beautiful Scotch song "My Aln Folk," and graciously responded, to an encore with Annie Laurie. The social committee delighted the ladles with their luncheon.

FAILED TO SHOW UP In preparation for their second grid-
ron. battle with the fast Morocco .high
school next Saturday afternoon, ' the
Hammond high school football warriors will be put through some hard drill work by Coach Smith this week. A week ago Morocco defeated Hammond, but the local team hope to come back at Morocco next Saturday and
wipe out the recent stain. .
Saturday a number of the local
squad went to Gary to see Morocco line up against the Steel City team, but
Morocco failed to put in their appearance. Hammond will have a number
of new plays to spring on Morocco
next -Saturday and if the team plays
football like the interest they are tak
ing in practice. Coach Smith expects his men to roll up a large icore.
SENSATION AT
CHESTERTON Affidavits were issued this morning'
by Prosecuting Attorney Walter J.
Fablng for the arrest of Mrs. Olive Bowser of Chesterton, and they were placed In the hands of Sheriff W. S. ' Lindahl for service. The warrants were signed by Mrs. Emily Baum, said to be a sister-in-law of Mrs. Bowser. '.
Two charges are preferred, one of as- ;
sault and battery and the other of rob- ;
bery.
In the affidavits filed here today,
Mrs. Bowser Is alleged to have made a
vicious attack on Mrs. Baum by beat
ing, kicking and choking her, and depriving her of ten dollars. Emerson
Bowser, an alderman of Gary, was here
this forenoon with Mrs. Baum to as

Mrs. Bessie Jones became the bride of Mr. George Lowry yesterday. Both are of East Chicago. The wedding was celebrated at Crown Point. Justice Nicholson officiating. Mr. Lowry and Mrs. Jones, In company with Dave Campbell, made the trip from East Chicago to Crown Point In an auto, Mr. Campbell acting as best man at the wedding. In the evening the party went to Chicago where they say "The Whip." Mr. Lowry is a heater at the Republic Iron and Steel company's plant in East Chicago and the bride, formerly Miss Bessie Fisher, is originally from Muncle. Mr. and Mrs. Lowrie will make their home for a few days with Mrs. Lew Richards of Baring avenue, after which they will go to house-keping in Hammond. Both the bride and groom are popular in their circle In East Chicago.

L. Lawrence Dead. Sad news of the death of. Lloyd Lawrence, a former resident of Hammond, was received from Mexico, N. Y., yesterday where his death occurred and interment was made last week. Details of his death have not been learned. Mr. Lawrence was a resident of Hammond for a number of years, where he was employed at the old spring factory. He is' survived by his wife. Mrs. Emma Lawrence, and daughter. Marguerite, both talented musicians.
