East Chicago's women, as represent
ed by the Civics department of the
East Chicago Woman's club, are go
lng to undertake the solution of the
cement plant problem which both the
city and the commercial club of Indi
ana Harbor and East Chicago have thus
far wrestle with unsuccessfully.
At a meeting of the Civics depart
ment of the Woman's Club to be held
this evening In the public library as
sembly hall the cement plant problem
will be treated from its various angles
by Mrs. A. H. W. Johnson and Mrs. A.
T. Cox In papers on that subject, while
Mrs. H. H. Clark will lead the general
discussion which will follow. It is un
derstood that the club women are de
termined to do something which will
have a tendency to abate the nuisance,
which is a menace to the health of men, women and children and makes
an endless amount of unnecessary la
bor for housewives. In the dust that it spreads throughout their homes, when
ever the wind is in a certain quarter.
This subject will appeal directly to
the women of East Chicago whether
members of the club or not, and it is
only one of the many matters of local
interest which will be taken up by the
Civics section of the women's club this
year. Last year a great many women
who entered the civic section were dls
appointed because local matters were
not taken up. However, those in
charge of the movement believed tha
the first step in making an efficient
civics department, was a course o
general study. This was the policy o
the department last year and it wll
bo by no means be dropped this year,
one half of the program at each meet
lng being devoted to general study.
while the remainder of the time will be given over to the consideration of local
problems.
The club wishes to appeal to all
women Interested in the welfaro o
their city, to unite with them in thi
movement.
The Civics department this year ha

Tonight's program will open at 8 o'clock following Immediately upon the heels ot a called meeting of the general club. A paper on the subpect of "Paupers" by Miss Maj-y Llndley, secretary of the local charities association, will be given as will also a paper

Gary Techn vs. Indiana Harbor. The Gary Techs will play Indiana
Harbor Sunday at Ambridge grounds. The Techs defeated the Harbor last
year by the score of 20 to 0. "Stubby" Neur, who was elected captain, is an
excellent player, . while Graham la
showing up In fine shape on end. The game Is expected - to be interesting from start to finish. A small admis
sion will be charged, which is 25 cents. The gate receipts will be divided 60 per cent to the winner and 40 per cent
to the loser. The game will start promptly at 2:30 p. m.
"CUBS" TO PLAY GARY ALL-STARS The world-famous Chicago Nationals, or better known as the "Cube," will play a benefit game with the Gary All Stars on Saturday, October 18. The game will be played at Gleason park. General admission,' $1, box seats $2. This frame will be a benefit for the Gary General hospital and the proceeds will be given to them. The Gary All-Stars have been picked from the city teams, but most of them are from the old Gary Works club. "Germany" Schults, the star pitcher of the E. J. & E. team will be one of the twirlers for the Gary team -and with his effectual pitching Gary will give the Cubs a run for their money. "Cy" Williams the old Gary Works outfielder will play center field for the Cubs while "Pete" Hennlng of Crown rolnt will also be on the Gary pitching staff.
