these offices, however, tha filling: of the places with Democrats will have the effect of building up a very fine Democratic machine in the state, or at least of aiding the present machine In strengthening- itself, as the case may be. When Isaac R. Strouse, of RockviHe, becomes collector of Internal revenue for Indianapolis district, it is expected
that he will appoint deputies who
will not lean heavily toward the pres
ent Democratic organisation,, however, " for he is not a machine man. He has always been a strong Marshall man .and a Kern man, and ha haa Joined Marshall and Kern whenever they have fought the machine in politics. ' His appointment will not be exactly to the liking of the machine, because the
machine will not be likely to control
the appointments which he will have to make. j
i On the other hand. If Peter J. Kruy-

may be relied on to make appointments
of deputies to suit the machine, for he . is a part of the Democratic state ma

Edwards, of Huntington, should happen to be appointed collector for the Indianapolis distract it is hard to tell Just what kind of appointments he would make, but the fact that Huntington county Democracy always has leaned toward the organization leads to the belief that appointments which he might make would not be at all unsatisfactory to the machine. j Mark Storen. of Soottshurg, seems to have the call on the United States marshalshlp. when the time comes to make the appointment, and he can be relied on to "do the right thing" by the organization. j
