Frank Plft. Porter TEACHER'S RECEPTION The teachers of the Washington school in Indiana Harbor will entertain t a reception October 2 for the rest f the teachers of the school. This is an annual affair its main ob ect being to acquaint the new teach ers with each other and with the older nstructors of the teaching force. The custom has been In force a number of years and is an affair looked forward to with a great deal of interest by all the teachers as well as the superintend ent of schools and the members of the board of education. One year the spe cial teachers act &s hostesses, another year the high school faculty undertakes the responsibility of entertainment, and last year the recoption took place at the McKInley building. A number of committees have been appointed to see that this year's even s a success. There will bo a program of music, preceding the reception, and later refreshments will be served. The hall where the guests will bo received and entertained will be decorated In the autoumn decorations, and there will be refreshments. For each of these features a special committee has been provided. Th chairman of the music committee is Miss Maud Williams; of the reception committee. Miss Bessie Torry, of decorations. Miss Edna Ivey punch and cake and similar delicacies will be served. Misses Nella Dietrich and Lulu Hufty presiding over the punch bowl. Wild flowers and flags will constitute the decorations. About 100 are expected to attend. S. S. M'CLTJRE ISTAKEN ILL Battle Creek. Mich., Oct. I. While speaking before the guests of the Battle Creek, sanitarium yesterday, S. S. McCJure, a New Tork publisher, was taken suddenly 111. He was much better this evening, and left for the east. Local interest Is now centered In Mr. McClure inasmuch as McClure's maga zine is running a serial autobiography of the publisher, whose boyhood days were spent at Hebron, near the Lake and Porter counties boundary line. KNOTTS MEN TO HAVE BIG PARADE The executive committee of the Gary democratic party Is making arrangements for a big parade to be held in Broadway on Saturday evening. It is the aim of the Knotts men to outrival If possible the parade of the Johnson men In which 3,000 marchers took part last night. Several hundred dollars worth of red fire will be burn ed during the course of the evening. GARY MAN DIES AT AGE OF 84 Christopher Ormsbee, one of the few persons in Gary's population of 40,000 over the age of 60. passed away yesterday morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. W. L. Reid, 537 East Fifth avenue. Mr. Ormsbee was born at WllUston, Vt., in 1830, and was rearing his eighty-fourth year when his death ensued. Old age is given as the cause. He is survived by his daughter, Mrs. Reid. and two sons, who do not reside In Gary. This morning Undertaker Bennett shipped the remains to Kalamazoo. Mich., where Interment was made.
