Enoch Schall. an uncle of George V. Fredericks, who has been visiting him for some time, died at his home on Saturday, the cause of his death being congestion of the lungs. .Mr. Schall was nearly SO years of age, a widower and lived at Tipton, Ind., where the body was shipped yesterday for burial. The funeral of Joseph Hornich, who committed suicide on Thursday by shooting himself through the temple, will be held at the home on South Main street this afternoon, the burial bein?; at the Crown Point cemetery. It develops that the mrn had contemplated suicide for some time, he having purchased 'a revolver and a number of cartridges over a week ago at a local hardware Ftore. The last pern of him was on Thursday noon when he returned from a trip to Chicago. From the position and appearance of the body it is thought that he committed the act shortly after the return. He was a member of the local order of Independent Foresters, who will have charge of the services. Thomas Kallas. a cook working at the Boston all night restaurant, was arrested on Saturday night for being too free with a razor he was carrying. The trouble arose over the payment of wage earnings ,and Kallas Immediately tried to collect what was coming to him. He was told to leave the place and thereupon he threatened to clean the whole restaurant, especially Bastion, the proprietor and manager. He was arrested and taken before Judge Nicholson, who fined him with costs amounting to about $20 and thirteen days in Jail. . A two-days-old baby of A. Goldstein,
an employe of the Auerbach shirt factory, was sent to Chicago for burial yesterday. The Iake County Teachers' Institute will be held this week and a good attendance Is expected by Superintendent Heighway and his corp3 of instructors and lecturers who will take part
. in the program. j Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Stockbarger and ; son, Donald, have returned from a two j weeks' camping expedition at the Kan- ' kakee river. j H. D. Among those who will attend from Crown Point are: Misses Bess Rose, j Gwendolyn Parry, Belle Peterson, Mrs.
Ben Hayden, Mrs. Victor Dyer of Hammond and Mrs. V. F. EllWanger of Chicago. After eighteen years' faithful service as teacher In the Crown Point schools. Miss Josephine Meeker has resigned her position owing to the ill health of her parents. Miss Meeker will be greatly missed as she was very popular both with the teachers and pupils. As yet her successor has not been chosen. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Hetde of Chicago are visiting with Mrs. G. C. Bartholomae on East street for a few days. A small child of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Peske, living south of this city, is reported as dying on Sunday. The funeral arrangements have not been made Bt this time. A number of baseball fans journeyed to Lowell yesterday to the ball game, but returned with the poor satisfaction of seeing the local team defeated by a comfortable score. Fred Wheeler and family moved on Saturday to Gary, where they will reside. Harry Baker and wife will occupy the house vacated by the Wheelers on Court street.
THE BEST PROOF
Hammond Citizens Cannot Doubt It. Doan's Kidney Pills were used They brought benefit. The story was told to Hammond residents. Time has strengthened the evidence. Has proven the result lasting. The testimony is from this locality. The proof convincing. David Spencer, 627 Davidson PI., Whiting, Ind., says: "I suffered terribly from kidney disease. The first symptom was pain in my right side. I had to get up often at night to pass the kidney secretions. I also had headr.ches and rheumatic twinges. Sometimes I was so stiff and lame that H was all I could do t move. My health failed and I was so weak and run down that I was discouraged. Doan's Kidney Pills were brought to my attention by a friend and on his advice I got a box. They made a decided improvement from the first and I continued using them until the trouble was removed. I can still recommend Doan's Kidney Pills and am glad to say that the ctire they gave me has been permanent. You may continue using my former statement." For sale by all dealers. Price 50 cents. Over 700 varieties of roots, plants and herbs are known by pharmacists to have medical value and probably the "Indian Medicine . Man" knows of as many more. It was In this most interesting study, more than forty years ago, that Lydia E.
