GEORGE CAKSTAMU Gary, Ind,, Aug. 8, 11S. x MEET UNDER EAVES WHEN KEY'S STOLEN ftTontlnned from Pace i.1 East Chicago and place it in the outstretched arms of Whiting. Tha citizens state their case In the following article to Thb Times: "This is a direct appeal by the people of StlgllU Park to the city of East Chicago. Ws are seeking dlsannexation from East Chicago because we must have lake water. WATER CONDITIO! BAD. "The water conditions are outrageously bad. The water from almost all thu wells contains so many impurities, that It is unfit for drinking purposes. Our households are forced to use It for cooking, bathing and general domestic purposes nut Its use constitutes a great hardship, and we feel it a serious menace to health. Some of odr families carry water from Whlt Ing, a mile distant. . ; ""'. ", 5 The bad water becomes, serious In the matte1!- of washing clotehs. Most of the families in Stlglltz Park carry water' from the open ditches and sloughs and filter it on wash day. "We have no water for lawns and gardens. "For nearly twenty years we have sought in vain to get relief. We have had many delegations appear before the city council of East Chicago, and ve have received many promises for relief. Finally the difficulties of extending a water line under the canal have been shown to be so great, that we can hope' no longer for immediate relief. "In these twenty years property has suffered an actual decrease in value. Our families find living conditions un bearable. The better class of families refuse to settle here without having the conveniences of life. Now, under these conditions, we find that the city of Whiting is willing to take us in and supply us with lake water. If the city council of East Chicago will disannex. Hence, we make this appeal to the good foeling and good sense of our East Chicago neighbors. Sttglitz Park is of no value either to Whltln'g or . East Chicago, is It will require a greater expenditure than the yeild in taxes. The tie that binds is a burden both to us and to the city. To sever the bond Is surely the right and sensible thing to do. "Therefore, we ask that our grievance be heard and that Stiglltz Park be disannexed from the city of East Chicago. Aetna and Miller houstwives and the young women who wisely wash their own finery instead of sending It to the laundries ara afraid of hanging out their clothes on the clothes line. The NMktr Old Eagle. Reason for this is the presence of the big bald eagle that is hovering over the sand dunes. The naughty eagle a few days ago swooped down upon Miller beach and stole the clothing and dainty lingerie of a fair young woman bather. Although the bird, which la said to measure seven feet from tip to tip, was later scared into dropping his precious package he Is still abroad and mors than one housewife has been the old reprobate eyeing clotheslines containing dainty lingerie. "i; Haas; Clothes Indoor. The fact that the eagle that seems 'to have a penchant for feminine garments is up to these tricks was made known yesterday when Gary merchants received several . orders for portable clothes hangers. In the meantime the Aetna and Miller laundrled things will be hung up in the kitchen unless the head of the family can be persuaded to stand guard with the trusty squirrel rifle over the clothesline. There is considerable talk among the young men of Miller organizing an eagla hunt but from what can b-5 learned the bait eagle. Is a wary aviator and is well able to dodge any of the Miller saplings.
