Wards of the city of Gary were increased" from six to nine at the com

mon council meeting last night, which means that the council will comprise

thirteen instead of nine members.

A Knotts-Gallagher Move. Through an adroit move on the part

of Mayor Knotts and Alderman W. S. Gallagher (republican), recently defeated for the Citizens' nomination for

mayor of Tolleston the democrats succeeded in making November 4 as the date when the ordinance goes into effect. Alderman Hess and the regular re-

pubican members of the counci sought

to make August 4 the date but the

Knotts men didn't want the council "packed." as they stated, by four men,

who might be Identified with the citi

zens' movement. Knotts, assisted by

his ieutenant. Gallagher, secured his

own wishes in the matter. Con noil To Fill Jobs.

By reason of the redisricting the second ward, which takes in all of the

territory west of Broadway, north of Tolleston and to the East Chicago limits is divided into three wards. An

additional ward is created in the south end and the Ridge district is made

Into one ward. There'll be three ward

alderman and three alaerman-at-large

to be named by the council on Novem

ber 4 to serve until the first Monday ln January.
