The bridge Is 60 feet wide In the clear, forty feet being devoted to street car tracks and roadway, while the remaining twenty feet ten foot walk on each side. The bridge has not been formally
accepted aa yet by the county, this formality having to wait until the commissioners convene in regular session. There will be a meeting next week at which action will be taken there seems no reason to believe that the job will be accepted as everything semed to meet with the approval of the commissioners and the rest of the party which looked ever the work.

but it makes a good advertising feature for the city. The street Itself Is
double paving with a double street ca track running down the center. Th
poles are set between the tracks with a thirty-foot paved roadway on either side. This street is also fitted out with electrolier lights. The portion of the j town encountered on entering fr-um Chicago is wide open, but as one foea Into what is called "steel town things are more restricted. There are only two saloons in this portion of the city. "I was taken to the top of the Y. M. C. A. building and shown three new .apartment houses which Pinneo told me had Just been erected. They were built on what was a year ago a lake. Gary is all built on made ground and the top soil has to be hauled in, sometimes from a distance. KICKED AT FIRST ni'T Off"When the sysetm of macadam roads was first proposed in Lake county it met with the opposition of the farmers who were afraid of the expense. Now that It is well under way they are anxious for t. They find that they can haul twice as much in a day over the macadam roads and that they can haul as much as the horses can pull.
It does not wear out wagons and ve
hicles of any sort as did the former roads and the farmer can haul tn any
weather when he can do nothing else.
"It seems strange that Nebraska
should not have at least, a macadam
road between Lincoln and Omaha. It would make it a good two hours' ride between these two cities and be of
great benefit to all the counties
through which it passed besides. We do not have the hills to combat with out here that they have in the east In building roads. About all we have to do is to lay the macadam on the top of the ground."
Several promotions and demotions

several more of them are said to be in line for similar jobs. Colored men are generally given jobs In Gary ust before election and a few days after election they are "canned."
