A CLASS MKKTlMi. The annual business meeting: of the Amoma class of the First Baptist church was held yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Robinson In Gondii street. In the absence of the president, Mrs. Charles (Jruen, the vice president. Mrs. Charles See presided. The, Important feature of the afternoon was the election of officers. Several other matters of interest were discussed, after which there was a social hour, and the hostess served a dainty collation. A number of th class members were in attendance at the meeting-. The following- is the list of newly elected officers: President Mrs. Carl Anderson. Vice president Mrs. Charles See. Secretary Mrs. Louis Burkhalter. Treasurer Mrs. Robinson. MBS. CROSS ENTERTAINS. Mrs. Archie Cross was hostess yesterday afternoon to the members of the V. C. T. U. at her home In Indiana avenue. It was the afternoon for the regular semi-monthly meeting of the society and following: ft short business session a program was given. Arrangements were mads for the next meeting to be held on the afternoon of August 8. Mrs. W. O. Leaverton, who has been th secretary of the society forthepast three years, handed in her resignation to take effect in September. During the social hour a dainty luncheon was served. The following was the program for the afternoon: Devotional exercises Mrs. James Erwin. Musical selection Mrs. "Bertha Sprout. . Paper Mrs. George Teazel. Temperance selection Marjorie Yeaxel. An original paper Mrs. T. O. Leaverton. Paper Mrs. Ida Fryer. PICNIC AT THE LAKE FRONT. Members of Silver Light Hive. L. O. T. M., spent a very pleasant day yesterday picnicing at the Lake Front. It was their annual picnic and quite a number of the members attended. An elaborate picnic dinner was served at noon, after which various games and contests were enjoyed. The entire day was spent at the park. In two weeks on Wednesday evening the membra will meet at the K. of P. hall In South Hohman street for their regular semi-monthly meeting. A LAWN SOCIAL. The lawn social given at 227 South Hohman street last evening by the ladles of Justice Lodge, No. 419, Auxiliary to the Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen, was exceptionally well attended and a' sum of fifty dollars wa realised; which will be added to the emergency fund, from which the lodge hopes soon to be able to pay sick benefits to its members. More than three hundred people attended the social, and spent a very enjoyable time. Serving continued until a late hour. The lawn was illuminated with Japanese lanterns, and the large headlights from engines. Flowers decorated the tables very prettily. In Memory of Walter Webster Bora Aoanot 7. 1RS4. Refreshments were served. During the evening plans were made for the annual picnic to be held at the I.ake Front, July 81. A picnic dinner will be served, and the day will be spent socially with games and contests. Th next regular meeting of the members will occur in two weeks on Friday evening. Lrfist evening; the members of Opal Hive, No. $96, L. O. T. M. M., met in the Moose hall in State street for their retular meeting. Arrangements were made during the evening for the next regular meeting to be held the sec ond Monday In August, and also for the annual pirnic to be held August 6 at the Lake Front. The members and their amilles are invited. A basket lunch will be served and the day will be spent pleasantly with contests and carries. This evening the members of the Dorcas lodge of Rebeckahs will meet in the I. o. O. F. hall in East State street for their regular weekly meeting. A social hour will be enjoyed following the lodge session. There will be a meeting of the members of Triumph Council, No. 11. D. of L.. Monday evening-, in the I. O. O. F. hall in East State street. To Issue Magazine. A galaxy of talent has been enlisted from the Methodist churches of the Calumet region as managing editors, interviewers, contributors, circulation and advertising managers for a magazine which will issue but one number and that a memorable one. "The Calumet Survey" to be printed on glazed paper with decorations and illustrations gallore. They desire that the magazine be Issued for the Conference of Northwestern Indiana Methodists churches, September 23 to 29. In fact It Is being gotten up especially for the occasion. The frontispiece will be a feature of the magazine. The names of men prominent in Lake county affairs are to appear on the table of contents. Among other things will be an article by article on manufacturorles by W. Thomas of the Simplex and a story about Home Missions by W. B. Belman, the banker. Director Mayne of the Gary Y. M. C. A. is to write on charity, and Director Anderson of Gibson on railways Charles Surprise, deputy county clerk is to have an article on public buildings and Rev. Brlggs. superintendent of Hammond district one on education. Oliver C. Holmes of Gary is to write about finances. The managing editors will tell of Calumet waterways. TQLEESTON. Mrs. D.
