Hanson at her home, 334 Cedar street, delightfully entertained a number of children at a lawn party yesterday afternoon In honor of the fourteenth birthday anniversary of her brother and sister, Gustav and Helen Glorlus. A number of games were played, after which dainty refreshments were served. Miss Louise AVill1ns: and Henry Krause were the prize winners In the guessing contest. One of the pleasant features of the after noon was a urab Bag in which each child received a little gift. Helen and Gustav were the recipients of numerous pretty gifts. CELEBRATES ANNIVERSARY. Mrs. W. J. Meyers entertained a number of little folks very charmingly on the lawn at her home in East State street last Saturday afternoon in honor of her son. Joe Meyers. The party celebrated his third birthday anniversary and he received a number of prettygifts in remembrance of the day. The children spent the afternoon playing games and at 5 o'clock a dainty collation was served. Among the guests were several of Joe s little playmates in the- neighborhood. ASTER EOPTIt'ON LECTURE. A meeting of the Baptist Brotherhood will be held Tuesday evening in Haptlst hall in the Rimbach building. The meeting is open to the public, and it is expected that there will be a large audience to enjoy the stereopticon lecture on the Fhlllipine islands by Mr. E. R. Maclntyre. About two hundred attended the annual picnic of the First Methodist Sunday school last Saturday at Douglas park and spnt a most enjoyable day. The picnic dinner was served it 1 O'clock, and during the afternoon the young people engaged In a number of athletic games and contests. A special car was chartered which left from the corner of Hohman and Russell streets at 10 o'clock. The picnickers did not return until late in the afternoon. GRANTED A LICENSE. Announcement was made of the next meeting, to be held Saturday, July 26, when the usual business and social program will be followed. Saturday evening the members of the Hammond Chapter of Eastern Stars met in the K. of P. hall In South Hoh man street for their regular semi monthly meeting. There was only rou tine work, and after the business session a short time was spent socially, ihere was a large attendance of the membership at the meeting. The next regular meeting will be held In two weeks on Saturday evening, August 2. The regular semi-monthly meeting of the members of Progressive Court No. 166. Tribe of Hen Hur, will take place Tuesday evening in the K. of P. hall In South Hohman street. The meeting will be an important one, and It is desired that there is a large attendance of the membership. There will be both in stallation of officers and initiation of a class or candidates. During the so cial hour refreshments will be served. CHURCH PICNIC There was a union picnic of the Presbyterian churches of Indiana Harbor, uary and East Side on Saturday at Cal umet park. East Side, which was at tended by a large number from Indiana Harbor, as well as from the other places which had churches represented in the gathering. Indiana Harbor, Incidentally, carried oft many of the honors in the way of prizes offered in the various contests. A fine time was reported by all present. The contests and those to whom prizes were awarded were as follows: Thin women's race. Mrs. F. J. Murley, first; Mrs. W. F. Harman, second. Girls, fourteen years to sixteen, Esther Frank and Gertrude Rerner. Men s race, F. J. Murley, W. F. Harmon. Hoys, thirteen to sixteen years, J. McConnell, Clarence Speedy. Girls, ten to thirteen years, Edith Verner and Elva Speedy. Free for all ladies, Mrs. Will Murphy and Mrs. Alva Middaugh. Fat women's race, Mrs. D. W. KeDDle and Mrs. Frank. The pole in falling grazed th'e skirt of her dress. Miss Sherptosky says there was nothing in sight which could have caused the fall of the pole. It simply dropped to the pavement. It is believed however that it had been struck previously by an auto or a wagon and thus weakened. They are painted In black letters on yellow background and under the new state law tags of this pattern must be carried both frqnt and rear by every Indiana auto. FUNERAL OF ETHEL HORNER The funeral services of Miss Ethel Horner, who met her death by drowning, at the Tin Plate beach, was held at the home of her mother, Mrs. W. J. Clark, B21 Monroe street, Gary, two o'clock Sunday afternoon. R ev. F. A. Walton, of the First Presbyterian church, spoke words of condolence to the bereaved relatives, and in Impressive words pictured the pure, young life of the girl who was an untiring worker in the Sunday school and of the different young people's societies in the church of which she was a faithful member. Six young men and six young ladies, all classmates at the Gary high school acted as pall bearers.
