Hammond RUSSEI, GAVIT WEDS. Russel D. Gavlt, 1019 Hyslop Place, Hammond, was licensed her today to marry Miss Mable Lolse Hammond. VISIT IX OHIO. Court reported Hary E. Volk and family left last night via the Pan Handle for his former home In Rose Farm near Columbus, Ohio. They expect to be gone several weeks visiting with relatives in the meantime. EHBROiraSRV CLITI. The ladles of the Amethyst Club were pleasantly entertained Thursday afternoon by Mrs. Otto Herhold at her home, 860 Calumet avenue. Embridery was the principal diversion of the afternoon. Mrs. Eohrlnger of East Chicago was the invited guest. The hostess served the ladles with delightful refreshments and the afternoon was spent most-en-Joyably. Mrs. Hoffman will entertain the club again in two weeks at her home in East State street. Mr. and Mrs. Edward Conn of 490 Hohman street, with their house guests Mr. and Mrs. Charles Adams of Birmingham, Mich., and Mrs. 'William Peverger, of Hammond spend the fourth with Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Cornwell at their home in Englewood. The afternon and ewenlng were spent in Riverview park. Mrs. Adams, Mrs. Conn and Mrs. Devergex are sisters of Mr. Cornwell. This was their first meeting fn eight yeans. i HO.OR TWO SUMMER BRIDES. The honor guests were the Misses
Josephine Brunner and Mary Prusikinski. Miss Brunner has been one of the most successful and highly respect ed foreladies In the bindery for the past ten years. She will be the August bride of Edward Eurley. Miss Mary Prusikinskl has had charge of the stitchers for two years and her marriage to Alexander Koloskl will be solemnized July 21st. The girls library and dance hall were redecorated throughout for the occas ion. The profusion of pink and white roses and ferns used In decorating gave a bridal touch to the rooms. In the dining room the pink and white color scheme was carried out In the table decorations, where a dalntly arranged luncheon was served, after which the brides to be were given prettily arranged wreaths and veils and led the march to the dance hall for the "brides dance." The remainder of the evening was spent in music and dancing. Little Myrtle Norton entertained them with several pretty songs and fancy dances. She wore an appropriate costume for each number. Her "make- I up" for the "Old Maid's Ball" was the hit of the evening. Each of the brides received a complete set of silverware, gifts from the employees and a large cut glass bowl from the head forelady. Miss Brunner aloa received a beautiful carving set from the trimming department. The 150 young ladies that were present voted the evening a complete succes from every standpoint, also that the rooms were Ideal for entertaining such a large number. TRIP THROUGH CANADA. Mr. and Mrs. Frank A. Meyers of 318 Truman avenue left this morning for an extended eastern trip. Y., and will also visit their daughter Mrs. Charles Murray In Rochester, where she went after her wedding to make her future home. AID SOCIETY PICNIC. The Ladles Aid Society of the First M. E. church will have a picnic next Wednesday at Harrison park. Arrangements are made for a basket dinner and a very pleasant day is anticipated. It Is hoped that all the members will avail themselves of this opportunity for an outing. ENTERTAIN WITH CARDS. Mrs. Luthman was hostess Thursday afternoon to the members of the Sunshine Club at her home In Sibley at. The afternoon was pleasantly spent with several games of pedro. The honors were won by Mrs. Huber, Miss Mae Huber, Mrs. Luthman and the consolation by Miss Mae Luthman. At four o'clock the hostess served a dainty two course luncheon, the covers being laid in the dining room. The next club meeting will be In two weeks with Mrs. Huber. MEETING POSTPONED. The members of the Golden Red club did not meet on Thursday afternoon as was formerly announced. They will meet next Tuesday afternoon with Mrs. John Rennalls at her home In Ash st. MRS. ERL.EWEIN ENTERTAINS. The members of the Sewing Circle No. 2 of St. Margaret's Hospital were entertained Thursday afternoon by Mrs. Erlewein at her home in Fayette street. A number of games of pedro were enJoved and the honors were awarded to Mrs. Plageman. Mrs. Henry Beeker and th consolation prlie to Mrs. George Emmerllng. A delightful social hour followed the games, during which the ladles were served with a delightful luncheon arranged at small tables in the parlors. The next meeting will be in two weeks and the hostess is to be announced later. DAY IN HARRISON PARK. The members of the Colonial Club and their husbands celebrated the Fourth with a picnic. The day was spent in Harrison Park where a basket dinner and supper were enjoyed, mir ing the afternoon various picnic diver sions were Indulged in. There were about 20 who spent a most enjoyable time. The next meeting of the club will be In two weeks with Mrs. Spell man at her home in Carroll street. SOCIAL AT PARK. The. ladies of the W. C. T. U. held an ice cream social Thursday afternoon and evening in Central Park. The attendance was very good and a very nice sum was realized which will be added to the hospital fund. WAS A The Fourth of July at the Hammond Country club was celebrated with a number of interesting golf events and while no records were, broken some good playing resulted. In the class cup event J. L. Rohde and C. A. Smith, W. H. Crawford and A. Merrltt qualified in class Dr. Dr. O. L. Smith, L. Cox, Dr. T. W. Oberlin and R. M. Chapman qualified In class B, and W. D. Patton, C. M. Hicks, G.R. Love and C. Scott in class C. In the first round Rohde beat Smith, Merritt beat Crawford, Cox beat Smith, Oberlin beat Chapman, Patton beat Hicks and Scott defaulted to Love. The finals will be played this afternoon. In the finals of the June cup flight, C. Barry Jr. defeated P. A. Parry six and four. Going out Barry was only 1 up, but his opponent after having halved the tenth hole got In the rough on 11 -iand lost five straight holes. Barrymade the eigh teen holes in 95 and' duplicated the feat in the afternoon. A party of Hammond people were en tertained yesterday by Bayless Cosner at his camp on the Deep river at Liverpool, Ind., near .Gary. 'The party were tncT. in Gary where they had gone via the interurban line and were taken to their destination on a hay wagon. The camp is situated In a most delightful) spot, entirly free 'from mosquitos, and as there was a refreshing breexe blow ing. It was an ideal day. Boating, fishing and bathing were pleasant pasttimea and were thoroughly! enjoyed by all. ANOTHER LAD HURT WHILE PLAYING BALL Another accident somewhat similar to that suffered by Willie Hart of In diana Harbor whil playing baseball the -other day -fcefU. -Willie 'J3oovanJ aged. 19. son of C D. Donovan. 4723 Tod avenue. East Chicago, on Wednesday. In the case of the latter. , however. It was his leg that was fractured Instead of his skull, as la Willie Hart's case. - Toung Donovan was playing base ball at the International Lead company's plant. 151st street and McCook. He was pitching and Clyde Grotto was; catching. The ball came down midway between the two players and both ran for It. Donovan either was tripped by Grotto or stumbled. It happened so quickly that nether of he men knew how it came about. At any rate Donovan fell, breaking his leg. He suffered a compound fracture and was taken to St. Margaret's hospital, Hammond. His foot and leg were placed In, a plaster cast this morning. Grotto is not held in any sense responsible for th injury, which was purely an accident. INTERURBANS DO VERY GOOD WORK Officials and employes of the South ! Shore and Gary & Interurban railways yesterday received much praise for the way in which tfiey handled the holiday ; crowds. The lines puth forth every ef fort to take care of the business, and while at times there were over-crowd ed cars this was condition that could not be helped. The South Shore system operated on Sunday schedule and It had many extra trains, especially between Gary and Chicago and Hammond and Michigan City. All of the trains were made up of four or five coaches and the crowds were taken care of In a better way tha never before. Th Gary and Southern did a. good business and the Gary and Interurban had much traffic to tho South Shore resorts.
