A BRIDGE PARTV. Mrs. Harry B. Hayward entertained the members of the "Wednesday Afternoon club very charmingly yesterday arternoon at her home, 25 Mason street. With the members of the club she entertained Mrs. William Crawford. Mrs. Allen Graham. Mrs. E. F. Johnston and Mrs. Charles G. Hohman. The guests played bridge whist at three tables during the afternoon. High, score was made by Mrs. Raymond Chapman. Several games of cards were played after which a prettily appointed two course luncheon was served. Twelve luncheon covers were laid. The next meeting of the club will occur in two weeks on Wednesday afternoon, July 16th at the home of Mrs. August Schneider in Highland street. Mrs. Schneider will be hostess at a bridge party. PICNIC AT THE LAKE FRO.VT. The girls of the Wilson Club spent a very pleasant day yesterday picnicking at the Lake Front. A LAWN SOCIAL. The members of the W. C. T. V. will have an ice cream social and cake sale this evening at Central Park and cordially invite the public to attend. Ice cream will be served from small tables. The lawn will be prettily decorated with Japanese lanterns. The proceeds of the sale will be used by the society for th! benefit of the hospital fund. EXTERTtlXS WITH CARDS. .The members of the Pleasure Club were entertained very delightfully by Mr Martin Findling at her home 'n Morton Court yesterday afternoon. There was a meeting of the Deborah Society yesterday. The members met for an all day session in tho parlors of the First Christian church in Calumet avenue. Dinner was served at noon and there also was a sale of home bakery. A nice amount was realised from the sale which will be used by tho society for the benefit of the church. During the afternoon there was quite an important business session. Sever-al matters of Interest were discussed and plans were made for the next regular meeting to be held Wednesday. Julv 8th, when the members will meet for another all day session. The meetings are In charge of Committee No. 1 of which Mrs. LaFier is chairman. AID SOCIETV MEETS. Mrs. E. A. Weeks and Mrs. George Locklln were hostesses at the meeting of the Ladles Aid Society of the First Presbytrian church held yesterday af ternoon in the parlors of the church In South Hohman street. It was the regu lar weekly meeting: and tho greater part of the afternoon was devoted to work for the society. An amount-of sewing was accomplished. During the evening the hostesses served a dainty two course luncheon. The meeting next week will b held on Wednesday and the usual business and social program will be followed. PICXIC AT JACKSOS PARK. The annual picnic of tho Monroe Street Methodist Sunday School will be held tomorrow at Jackson Tark. Chicago. A special car has been char tered which will leave Conkey avenue at nine o'clock and will leave the park for the return trip at five o'clock. A basket lunch will be served at noon af ter which a number of picnic diversions will be enjoyed. A large number are planning to attend and anticipate a very delightful day. A DAV AT HIDSOX LAKE. ' Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Abercrombie, the Misses Louis.! Carter, Grace Buettner and Mary Lord and Messrs. Merle Jewett. Thomas Smith and Otto Hudson will spend tomorrow picnicking at Hud son Lake. GAVE RECITALS. , Miss Pearl Dufraln and Miss Ruth Stommel of Dyer and Miss Gladys Younger gave recitals at the Hammond Musical College last evening. The first two are of the teachers certificate class and the latter of the graduating class. Each gave a distinctive recital unaided and made good. Quite a number of out of-town people were present. An auto party came from Dyer. Mr. and Mrs. P. A. O'Connell will en tertain Mr. and Mrs. Ben Wells of Maywood, 111., at their home In South Hohman street during the week end. East Chicago and Indiana Harbor now possess a council in the Knights of Columbus all their own. Last night the Twin City council. No. 1700, was organised with a membership of sixtyeight, the organization being conduct ed under the auspices of the newly ap pointed district deputy, J. W. O'Brien. The meeting was held at AVieland'S hall and the following officers were elected: J. J. O'Callahan, grand knight. John T. Dlnn, deputy grand knight. Martin McKenzie, chancellor. A. J. LaPlant, financial secretary. Harry Rebel, recording secretary. John K. Reppa, treasurer. Wells H. von Albade, warder. Judge Walter J. Riley, advocate. Norman McKenzie, Inside guard. Thomas Kennedy Jr., outside guard. Rev. John C. Wakefer, chaplain. Fred J. Fife, Michael Kenney, James P. English, trustees. There Is still one office tt be filled, that of lecturer, but this is an appointive office and the Incumbent will be named by Grand Knight J. J. O'Callahan, who has not yet made the appointment. will arrive In Hammond tomorrow for a short visit at the home of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. DeWeese in Rlmbach Avenue. Mrs. Knoff and little daughter. Naomi have been in Hammond all week guests of Mrs. Knoff's parents, Mr. and Mrs. DeWeese. Mr. and Mrs. John M. Stinson and children of May street will leave this evening for a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Huntley at their home In Holland. MicJ. They will remain over Sunday. Miss Beatrice Hansen of Rlmbach Avenue left for Aurora, 111., this afternoon to spend the remainder of the week with. Miss Laura Mather. Charles Binder will see the motorcycle races at Elgin, 111., tomorrow. Mr. and Mrs. II. M. Godfrey of Oakley avenue have gone to Pennsylvania for a visit with friends and relatives. Mrs. Charles Colgrove and son, Frank of East State street will leave this week for Rock Island, 111., to remain for three weeks the guests of friends and relatives. Mrs. Frank Hitchcock of Ogden street left at noon today for a visit with relatives in Lima and Spencerville Ohio. George Clark formerly of Hammond but now of Lake Arthur, La., is the guest of Dr. J. T. Clark at his homo in State street. Mr. Clark is in the real estate business in Lake Arthur. Mrs. A. r. Wall and daughter. Miss Julia of Michigan avenue will go to Logansport, Ind., to spend the remainder of the week with relatives. Miss Anna Oaks of Buffalo who has been the guest of Miss Minnie Turner at her .home in Truman avenue for several weeks has gone to Madison. Wis., for a visit with friends. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Robinson of May street and Mr. and Mrs. John Hughes of Warren street left today for Logansport where they will attend the IT. N. A. P. O. C. convention. Mr. Robinson and Mr. Hughes go as delegates from the local post-office. Mr. and Mrs. John F. Reilly of Rlmbach avenue will leave the latter part of this week for the txft where they will spend two weeks In New York City and Boston. Rlx W. Newell of Odgen street Is spending the week with relatives in Lawton, Mich. Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Boyle and Mr. and Mrs. A. V. ORGANIZED LAST NIGHT
Until recently the Knights of Columbus residing in East Chicago, Indiana Harbor, Whiting and Hammond were all under the Jurisdiction of the Hammond council. East Chicago and Indiana Harbor have long been desirous of having their own council, but did not like to be the first to break away from the Hammond body. Whiting, however, at last took the initiative and a short while ago organized a Whiting council, thus breaking the Ice. East Chicago and Indiana Harbor followed suit and the result Is the new Twin City council. The Installation of Officers will take place within the next ten days, but the place for the gathering has not yet been decided upon. Invitations to attend the installation will be extended to the council at Gary, that of Hammond, Whiting and Pullman. The regular meetings will be held temporarily In Wieland's hall until such time .as the organization is able to secure permanent quarters with lodge and clubrooms suitable to provide for the social features which are incidental to the council. street will leave this evening for Rensselaer, Ind., to visit friends and relatives. Mrs. John Seeley of Summer street is entertaining her brother, George F. Barron of the U. S. navy. Mr. Barron is home on a fifteen days furlough. Legrand and Frederick of Kane avenue have Just returned from & four weeks visit with relatives In Crown Point. Mrs. George Brower of Clinton street who has been very ill at St. Margarets hospital is reported to be improving nicely. Mrs. Brower underwent a serious operation several days ago. Mr. and Mrs. John Hageman of Doty street will spend tomorrow with friends in Aurora, 111. Miss Edith Kronsel will spend the week end with friends In Milwaukee. She will leave Hammond today. Charles Grlswold will leave this evening for Cleveland for a short visit. The Rev. Floyd H. " Adams will return this evening from Indianapolis where he has been atending a meeting of the State Board of Baptist Missions. Mahlon Weil of Philadelphia has accepted a position with the Northern Indiana Gas Company in Hammond. ILodge Assemblies The regular semi-monthly meeting of the members of Silver Light Hivo took place last evening In the K. of P hall in South Hohman street. There was only routine work and after the business session the time was spent socially. Refreshments were served dur ing the social hour. A number of members were present during the evening. The next meeting will occur in two weeks on Wednesday July 16th. This evening the members of Victoria Council Royal ' League will meet In Moose Hall in East State street for an important business session. Hoffman, pastor of the First Presbyterian "church, is to speak this evening in the tent at Hoffman and Cedar streets, on the north side.
