Mutiny, rank mutiny appeared on the decks of the big dredge. New York which is located near the forks of tho canal at tho present time. It lifted its black head about a. week ago. Tho men were, not complaining of their wages, hours, or grub. Everything in these lines seemed perfectly satisfactory. They did however complain of having to work at all when a shoal of pickerel many of which weighed as much as two pounds, headed their way and literally danced in the waters about the dredge, as inviting the dredge workers to catch them. This was several days ago. Then and there a strike was declared. And the strike has been on at intervals ever since. Incidentally some of the best fish dinners that have been served in these parts in years have been consumed with great appetite by the men on the dredge. The funny part of it is that the Cap himself. Superintendent Hausler of the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Co., in charge of the work, has been won over to the cause of the men. It is alleged, and himself has been guilty of dangling and line and hook in the waters at odd moments. As for C. A- -West berg of the East Chicago company, he is sweating blood and every day he slips away to the dredge to "see whether work is going forward as it should." At least this to hear him tell it. There are people in Indiana Harbor base enough to believe however, that Mr. Westbergs seal to visit the forks of the canal. Is not wholly In the interests of work. It is claimed by these evil minded ones that the microbe that has innoculated the fishers off the dredge had laid of him him too.

CONVENTION

Members of the executive campaign committee of the citizens' party of Gary tonight will meet at the offices of Republican City Chairman Frank W. Smith to perfect the July 12 city convention, details. ' Fair Delegate System. An unique system of selecting delegates to the convention has been worked out. The Joint republican and bull moose central committees will name one republican and one "bull moose In each ward and In each ward these two men will appoint a third voter. Then this committee of three .voters will nominate a list of men, twice as 'many as there are to be delegates, to be voted upon by the voters-at the precinct convention to name the delegates. The list will contain bull moosers and republicans in equal number. If any candidate objects to the list it will be further increased and any voter has the right of adding to the list by making out a new one. In this way the delegates will be selected and it is believed that any chances of "packing" will thus be eliminated. There will be 117 republican and bull moose delegates to the city convention, fiVi delegates from each party; and probably 26 delegates from the independent democratic party. The independent democrats will provide their own way of choosing delegates. The precinct conventions will be held on July 11, in the evening.

They were well received and at no time was there a clash between attcrni for nybody. The Hessville-Saxony territory is divided into three strips by Hammond highways, Oaumet avenue and the extension of Hohraan streets. The city owns these strips of 400 .et in width and is going ahead with improvements The towns of Hessvllle and f-'.axony are Included In the annexation.

erful Consumers' Company which now operated in Chicago and the middle west, having taken over the Knickerbocker Ice business, can tell the dissatisfied customers to go elsewhere. There is no elsewhere to go, for the ice supplied by the independent concerns is but a handfyl compared with the daily needs. They mainly depend on some private ice plant for its over supply, or have a supply in small ice houses put up last winter. The Consumers' company which having the lion's share of the business and therefore almost in a class with a public utility company, does not meet the demands of the customers. On hot days, especially in a long spell Its force of men is inadequate to handle the business. Deliveries Irregular. In Whiting and Hammond, the chief complaint against the company is that its deliveries are irregular. At the mass meeting next Tuesday night, investigators will be ready to lay facts and figures before the public. The Whiting supply from the Consumers Company is hauled by wagon from Roby. Few of the complains reach the ears of the Ice concerns. The peeved housewife tells her troubles to the Ice pan. Frequently he is the object of a wrathy attack and verbal abuse although ha is in no way responsible for the conditions.

From now on auto speeders who kill people and railway officials have Jurisdiction over deadly grade crossings where people get slaughtered had better watch out. Murder Charge to Follow. Coroner Frank Smith of Lake county is on the warpath over the Increasing number of auto and railway deaths and there are chances that some of the law-breakers will be held to the grand Jury on the charge of first degree murder. Action In this respect was taken in Chicago yesterday. Following accidents at the Michigan Central railway crossings this company persistently refused to comply with city ordinances that grade crossing be established. Coroner Smith announced that if there was another grade crossing death in Gary he would hold every official responsible to the grand Jury on a murder charge. The coroner has been looking into some of the Hammond railway accidents. Watching Industrial Accidents. Several fatal Industrial accidents, due, it is said, to the ambition of some officials to produce more dividends by putting cheap and unskilled help to work on complicated machinery, has caused ye coroner to issue a warning In several sources. Judging from the decrease in a certain line of Industrial deaths the warning is having Its effect.
