THIEVES STOLE FINE FRUIT Detectives Kertesz and Jenkins, of the Gary police, yesterday arrested Paul Bublsh and Martin Bishonith on the charge of robbing Michigan Central box cars. The vair are accused of getting away with several cases of cherrias, a crate of lemons, several bushel of tomatoes, several dozen of watermelons and ten barrels of apples. SZYMANSKI A CANDIDATE Bolice Szymanskl, son of Alderman Dominlek Szymanski, Sixteenth avenue and Broadway, today formally got Into the race for the nomination for alder-man-at-large on the citizens ticket of Gary by inserting his announcement in The Times. Young Szymanskl gave notice of his Intentions following a petition from his many friends. He has long aided and advised his father in political affairs and knows the ins and outs of the city council. .,- IDA M. TARBELL TO WRITE UP GARY Ida M. Tarbell of the editorial staff of the American Magazine today came to Gary to write u-p the town. She came with letters to Captain H. E. Norton, head of the Gary Land company. He took the famous writer for an auto tour of the town, a visit to the Emerson school and a trip through the steel mills. Miss Tarbell won fame by her history of the Standard Oil company. A..H. MEN ARE ROOF SLEEPERS More than a doaen of the Gary Y. M. C. A. dormitory young men last night alept on the spacious roof of the build ing. They were driven from their rooms, especially the top floor ones. which were like the interior of a Turkish bath because of the lack of window space, to the outside. Two of tha roof sleepers have tents. while several have regulation open air sleeping coats. CITY LEAGUE. The games In the City league Sun day were somewhat of a swatfest with the Acker-Schmidts, Rexalls and Millera, the swatters. These teams defeated their opponents in a disastrous manner, but the winners will remain in the same position In the percentage column with perhaps one exception the Millers are probably advanced to third place.
