Outfitters from Mandel Bros, of Chi
cago hold contracts wun tne Aiiarai Bros, of Hammond and elsewhere to
furnish new garments for the Orpheum
theatres of the. circuit of that name. Manager Hankinson's tabloid house on East State street will of a necessity go dark while this work Is being done
some time this summer. After two weeks of quiet Gtndcl's band will steal back into tho pit and begin another year's merry whirl cf variety, burletta and musical farce.
Twelve Thousand a Week. The wear and tear on the Orpheum
In a year is terrific. It is a matter
of record that 12.000 people Inhabit
that new show house in a week at
three performances a day. Every drappery, carpet, cushion and mat Is to go
out The walls will be re-decorated
and everything renovated. Alterations are to be made in the foyer, where a
tiled floor will be laid and the arrangement of mirrors changed. What Hankinson needs the most is a pair of lower boxes, but that is probably a physical Impossibility. The Orpheum houses have dispensed with boxes probably to
good purpose, thought the vacancy is not without a bad effect.
" "A Knight for a Day." A tall tenor with a sore thumb and
a proud brunette with a double chin are the lovers in "A Knight for a Day" at the Orpheum this week. They are aided and abetted by the manoeuvers of Charles Rose as Jonathan Joy and Cecil Summers as the seminary chef. All are In support of Janet' Priest as Tilly Day, an amusing little woman whose work is almost juvenile. Aside from the vari-colored tights worn by the chorus the most conspicuous and outstanding feature of the show is the tall tenor's thumb. One's Attention Is sidetracked from the rapid plot and the agile chorus by this well rapped member Of the male lover's right hand. .Spculation was rife as to how the Injury came about and a small boy in the audience last evening decided out loud that the proud beauty must have bit It. The sore thumb belongs to William? Hickey and the double chin to Miss Claire Clay.
Maurice Favorite 'NonKh Said. "Over Night in Boston" is a pending attraction that will be here Sunday. Advance photo boards of this tab are on view in the lobby of the Orpheum. They show a company of twenty views,
elaborate scenery and plenty pretty chorus women. Edward Jolly and Win
ifred Wild, late of vaudeville, are feat
ured. The show Is Maurice's favorite
tab.
