Whiting board of publl c works. (Special to Thb Times.)

Whiting, Ind., June 19. An expert

swimmer will be engaged for the Whit ing park, according to the latest dec!

slon of the Board of rubllc Works of

Whiting.

The Whiting bathing beach this

year has been ruined by the high

water, so much In fact, that swimming

is hazardous, affording no pla"e what

ever for wading. Twenty-five feet

from shore the water vould be over

woman s head , and thirty feet out, the watir is over a man's head. The oute-

bar however furnishes an unusua.

bathing spot, being of moderate depth,

about 4 to 5 feet and about 125 feet In width. The board of public works is devising a irueans of reaching this bar it is now thought that it will be necessary to build a hew pier for this

purpose. Realising the treachery o

the water, the city officials decided to secure an expert swimmer whose duty it will be to teach patrons of the park to swim and in case of accident, to do

rescue work.

A large supply of floats will also be on hand to be used by swimmers. The

bath house has already been opened

and this year Is in charge of Mrs

Michael Cheviri, Vlfe of the Tark Sup
