JClaus. I Clabby's wire telling of the battle j follows: "As a result of a decisive vie- j
tory over Eddie McQoorty I lay claim to the middleweight title of the world
and propose to defend the same against all comers. I beat M,cGoorty easily. He had me going In the first round, but that only made me fight all the harder, and after I finished with McGoorty, I don't believe he will ever care to face me In the ring again. I have that title
in my possession, and with my brother
Kddie fighting as a lightweight, the
Clabby family of Hammond will go
after two world's titles, something
which very rarely happens in the same
family."
CLARKE WORRIED BY PIRATES' SHOWING
Telegraphing from Butte, Mont.. Jimmy Clabby, Hammond's pride, today laid claim to the middleweight championship of the world as a result of his decisive victory over Eddie McOoorty Friday night in twelve rounds. All the telegraphic descriptions from the scene of the battle bear Clabby out in his claims and the fact that he was awarded the referee's decision gives him an unquestionable victory. From all accounts Clabby must have fought a wonderful battle. Away to a bad start, he came like a house afire from the second round. In the open
ing session Clabby was floored on two occasions. He took the count of seven and tha count of nin. Clabby's wonderful recuperative powers made a hit with the crowd. He threw all science to the winds and
tore after the Oshkosh bearcat like an enraged bull. At the end of the twelve
rounds Eddie was hanging on for dear
life.
Clabby appears to have a very fair
claim to the title, as he holds a victory
over Mike Gibbons. The only men who are in Clabby's path for a clear claim to the title are Jack Dillon and Frank

Fred Clarke. Manager Fred Clarke of the Pittaburg Pirates is worried. With his team in fifth plaee, his pennant hopes are going glimmering. His men to date have shown a lack of ringer. The pitching has been bad, the base running poor and the hitting nothing of which to brag. The whole outfit has shown a decided reversal of form.

Nearly all the crews to participate in the inter-collegiate regatta at Poughkepsle have arrived on the scene for practice. , "Nurse" Arthur Beane has deserted his millionaire charge, John Dahlgren of New York, to occupy a similar position with the Harvard varsity and freshment crews at Red Top where it will be his task to see that the oarsmen led a happy and care free existence during the weeks now remaining before the annual regatta with Yale. The 30-footer Dahlnda has a tender, a motor yacht named Traho. The yacht
is aply named. Traho is Latin and, means I tow. The steam yacht Sialia, now building at Pusey & Jones' yard from designs by Gielow & Orr, will cost 225,O00. The china, glass, linen and furnishings cost $25,000. The Avenger, owned by Harry L. Maxwell, will be a thorn in the side of owners of big yachts again. Her rig Is being changed so that she will rate in class Im The bowspirit and boom were shortened and the topmast and gaff were lengthened. She will rate about 51 instead of 54 and will be a hard boat to beat In the Astor and Kings' cup races.
