It is now necessary for the traveler on railroads to carry individual drinkins cups, if they are of the species

that are Inclined to thirst and take water as the only quencher of same. The new law, which provides that' no "community" cups shall be carried on trains, is a national one and affects all railroads. Consequently it is up to the thoroughfarer now to carry an . individual cup or go thirsty on trains. The law provides also that ice cannot be put directly into the tank of water, but must be put around the tank for sanitary reasons, and provides that all railroads shall be provided with this kind of a system of thirst irrigation. The law will work especial hardship

on the Krie road, as it will probably compel them to buy a few new drinking tanks and retill the one on the milk train with fresh water at least every third or fourth day. Ben Hayes is now making sand fly on all directions on his new residential subdivision in the east part of the city and will annihilate time and expense in making the same one of the most up-to-date and picturesque residence sites in the city. Several new houses are already planned, xo be built on the site, plans for a new and costly home for John H. Claussen being completed this week. Mr. Claussen's house will probab'.y De the first to be started on the Hayes subdivision, but at least four more are being planned for this year. Mrs. Oliver Wheeler will leave this week for ITnJontown. Pa., for an extensivt visit with Mr. and Mrs. John W. Fisher of that city. Mrs. Fisher being formerly Miss Myra Wheeler of this place. Mrs. Mary Alice Brown Is visiting friends at Houghton, Mich., this week. Mrs. Mabel Lowe will entertain a number of Crown Point ladies at a luncheon at her home in Chicago today. Among th-se attending the affair will be Mrs. Emanuel Buehler, Mrs. Ben Hayden and Mrs. Floyd Tennant. Mrs. Justis and children, who have been visiting with Mr. and Mrs. C.

Englert on Kast street for about two' weeks, returned to their home in St. Louis, Mo., today. Mrs. Eugene Thomas of Chicago is visiting the Glovers on Main street this week. John Foss is transacting business In Hammond and Chicago today. A dance will be given at Central Music hall tomorrow evening. The Lutheran school picnic at the county fair grounds yesterday proved a most enjoyable affair and the ideal weather brought out a record-breaking attendance to the annual event. A brass band helped to enliven the festivities and there was nothing lacking in the way of athletic sports and good things to eat to satisfy the most fastidious person on pleasure bent. The ball game scheduled for Sunday with the Royal Giants has been called off for the present, and it is said

the team will go to Hebron for a clash

with the nine of that town on that

date. The regular schedule of Sunday games will be followed thereafter.

Defeated Democratic Candidates to go Before Canvassing Board.

Contest notices having been filed by

Battleaxe Castleman and Frank Zawadski and other candidates as a result of yesterdy's Gary "democratic primaries," a big scrap is anticipated in the demo

cratic ranks with the Tom Knotts men

lined up on one side and the contesting

candidates and the city central commit tee on the other.

The canvassing board, which will sit as a court, and hear the contests and

count the ballots, is made up ot one Knotts man. City Clerk Ralph Snyder

and two anti-Knotts men, John Lyddlck and J. Carmody, appointed by the city

May Throw Out Klectlon.

It is possible that the canvassing

board may throw out yesterday's "pri

maries" and order a new election en

tirely.

Should the contest not be carried

through and into the courts there is

talk of the Zawadzkl and Castleman democrats forming an independent

democratic ticket or either fusing with

the republican-progressive men and

putting out a citizens' ticket.

The canvassing board was at work

until 5:30 this morning making up the

tally sheets.
