VariQus Committees Meet in Hammond Last Night to Make Arrangements.

Chairmen of the various sub-committees appointed by the general committee of the Hammond Country Club taking care of the Hammond end of the visit of the Indiana Society met at the Country Club last night and went over the plans and program of the affair as It is now in progress. Messrs. Sam Ogden. W. C. Bailey and Q. W. Lewis were present from East Chicago and John R. Farovld from Indiana Harbor. Those present from Hammond were A. M. Turner. H. E. Sharrer, T. W. Oberlin, H. M. Johnson. P. A. Parry, V. S. Relter, W. H. Crawford. Carl Bauer, Frank Demlnfc, tV. C. Clark, It. S. Qroman. R. E. Woods. Dr. E. M. Shanklln. The chairmen of the various committees are: General arrangement, H. E. Sharrer; Autos, Frank C. Demlnjr; Program. P. A. Parry; Banquet. W. B. Conkey: Decoration, J. F. Sawyer; Street Illumination and Park, R. E. Woods. A committee is also to be appointed to see about the decorations and entertainment along the Cedar

At 9 o'clock the illumination will take place on Ruth street and in the park and will be the most beautiful ever seen In Hammond. An effort will be made to get the city to share in this expense because the city Is bound to get good advertising from the visit of the- Indiana Society.

PICXIC AT THE LAKE FRONT. A number of the friends of Miss Margaret Blake gave a picnic party at the Lake Front in her honor last Wednesday evening. The party was given as a farewell to Miss Blake who has resigned her position as teacher in the Hammond schools. An elaborate picnic luncheon was served at six o'clock after which the time was spent pleasantly with games. In the party were the Misse Margaret Blake. Florence Uolph, Ellen Clarks. Jane Gilday. A social was given by the members of the Martha Society of - the First

t hristian church yesterday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Weir Stambaugh ir. Murray street. The committee of which Mrs. Fred Barnett is chairman had charge of the social and realized a nice amount. Ice cream and cake were served. Announcement was made of the next meeting to be held Thursday afternoon, June 19 at the home of Mrs. R. B. Richardson in Detroit street.

PARTY WAS POSTPONED. The patry at which Mrs. Edward Rohde was to have entertained last evening in honor of Miss Mae Hanson was postponed on account of the serious illness of Mrs. John L. Rohde. Mrs. Rohde suffered a stroke of paralysis yesterday afternoon and is very ill at her home in Indiana avenue. HOLD WEEKLY MEETING. This week's meeting of the Ladies' Aid Society of the First Congregational church was held yesterday afternoon in the parlors of the church in Gostlln street. The meeting next week will be held in the church and the usual business and social program will be followed.

CHILDREN'S DAY EXERCISES. Sunday, June 13 will be Children's Day at the First Congregational

church and the boys and girls of the

primary department will give the cantata "The Children of Light" at tho morning service.

A WEDDING ANNOUNCEMENT. The marriage of Miss Laura Beck and Stanley Martin will be solemnized tomorrow In Valparaiso. Miss Beck is the youragest daughter of E. E. Beck of Valparaiso. She graduated from the Hammond high school in the class of 1906 after which she studied at the Valparaiso University. Miss Beck has been a tearcher In the Hammond Public Schools for a few years, having taught at the Lafayette building at the corner of Calumet avenue and Sibley street. After the wedding ceremony tomorrow Mr. and Mrs. Martin will leave for a few weeks camping trip at Indian I.akc, O. They will be at home in Muncie. Ind., where Mr. Martin has a lucrative position with the gas company. A PLESAT MEETING. A very pleasant afternoon was spent by the members of the Ladies' Aid Society of the Monroe street Methodist chapel as guests of Mrs. Junk at her home in Harrison street yesterday. During the business session tho members decided to give a tea Thursday evening. June 19th at the home of Mrs.

John Olsen in Harrison street. A dainty three course luncheon was serv

ed during the afternoon. Mrs. Junk was assisted in serving by Mrs. John

Olsen, Mrs. J. M. Bradford and Mrs. F.

AN ENTERTAINMENT. The play "Robin Hood" was given

by the pupils of the Seven A Grade of the Irving school Wednesday evening in the school auditorium in Pine street. A matinee performance for the school

attendance at both entertainments.

There were twenty-seven children in

the cast. . Great commendation Is due not only the children who presented

the play in so creditable a manner but also to the teachers who had the rehearsals in charge. Musical numbers

were rendered by the orchestra and

fayette school. The stage was beautifully decorated with oak branches and palms and ferns to represent a forest scene.

AN INTERESTING MEETING. Yesterday afternoon the members of the Baptist Women's Union ' met with Mrs. Summerhaze at her home, 44 Doty street for their regular weekly meeting. ' Mrs. W. A. Hill, the president presided. Following the business session the members of the cild Culture Section took charge of the meeting. The program for the afternoon was in charge of Mrs. J. Buttner. Humane Society Meeting. A special meeting of the Lake County Humane society was held last evening in Dr. Watson's office. In the absence of the secretary H. G. Hodler acted as secretary pro tern. One hundred cards with "The Horse's Prayer" printed upon them were presented to the society by Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Hodler. These will be placed In barns to call attention to the needs of dumb animals. Resolutions were passed on the death of the late J. H. Prohl. We consider that we have lost one of our best workers in the humane cause on account of his death. Everybody who knew J. H. Prohl respected him on account of his kindness to his animals as well as to. his acquaintances. We consider his death a public calamity. We hope his manager will continue his kind treatment of the five horses that were the pride of their owner. The following persons were appointed as humane inspectors: Erick Lund,

Marion Hower. M. Ffeffer, II. G. Hodler and Tom Harle. Any one seeing an animal with sores on its shoulders, lame or being abused will confer a favor upon our humane society by reporting the same to them and to. the owne rs of the horse or horses. Funeral Services. Funeral services over Michael Kolb, 25 Condlt street. Hammond, will be held at the new St. Joseph's church Monday morning at 9 o'clock. The Rev.
