This is an annual event, the association under whose auspices the meeting is being held, emraclng the bankers of several counties in northern Indiana. Last year's meeting took place in Gary. Misg Ella Lyons of Elkhart. Ind., who has been in East Chicago for about ten days as the guest of. Mrs. August Johnson, leaves tomorrow for Brooks, Ind. Miss Lyons, who was formerly a teacher in this city, has been the guest of honor at a number of affairs since her arrival. Mrs. August Johnson gave a large musical in her honor last Thursday. Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Slocumb were dinner host and hostess for her Sunday and Mrs. IT. K. Groves gave an afternoon affair for her yesterday. Mrs. J. J. Freeman spent yesterday as the guest of her sister-in-law, Miss Kate Freeman of Sheridan road, Chicago. Little Marjorie Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. August Johnson, had a birthday party at the kindergarten in McKinley school this morning. There was a bg birthday cake with candles, and other refreshments, and the chil dren devoted the session to singing and games suitable to such a gladsome oc caslon. " ' The box social last night by the Epworth League at the Methodist church was quite an enjoyable affair. It was mostly a home crowd that 'attended and the boxes sold well, some of the men taking two boxes. The box pre snted by Miss Helen DeCamp brought the largest sum. Miss Etta Dixon, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. II. Dixon, will leave ' Saturday for Denver Colo., to visit her brother, George L. Dixon, In that city. Mr. Dix on. who has been In the Colorado city for some time for his health, is quite seriously ill. He has been suffering from erysipelas and some time ago de veloped a lump on his neck, which nec essltated an operation. The lump, however, has continued to grow and the last letter received from Mr. Dixon by his parents. Intimates that it is likely he will have to enter the hospital there for second operation. Mrs. Mary Lloyd, who was -quite 111 is recovering nicely. Mrs. Charles Fichter is feeling quite wretched today, and it is feared she is coming down with an attack of tonsl litis. Mrs. W. J. Funkey, Jr., of Beacon street entertained the No Name club at a hard times party Monday night The party was held in the basement of the Funkey residence and the costumes worn by the guests indicated that times were hard indeed. The Willing Workers of St. Mary's church will give a pedro and pinochle party Thursdav evening, in Weiland's hall. The information that was received did not definitely state that McGoorty had signed up with Clabby, but that the promoters were expecting the two title seekers to draw up agreements at most any time. If such a thing s.iould happen that McGoorty backs down the Hammond welterweight will take on some unknown opponent. According to Clabby, he is in fine fettle and if McGoorty will give him a second meeting the "Oshkosh demon" is due for a, lacing. In their first meeting at Denver several months ago the referee's decision was a draw, although Jiwmy was the aggressor and showed McGoorty up in nearly every department of the game.
