Work on the V-idge Is progressing nicely now, the caissons being all

completed and Ihe remaining work to

be done beir.- entirely on the superstructure and approaches. Mr. Crowell, the contractor, made the statement yesterday that the work would be completed by the first of July, the weather being favorable anil with a reasonable amount of good luck. This will be an immense relief to Indiana Harbor automobilists and teamsters who have business between Indiana Harbor and Whiting, now more times on account of tha torn up condition of Chicago avenue. Mr. Westberg had planned to take the commissioners over the full completed length of the canal. In a launch, even to the Lake George branch, but the tardy arrival of the visitors, they having been detained on the road, made it impossible. That jaunt was therefore postponed until a more favorable opportunity.
