The city council met last evening for their regular session and besides transacting the usual routine business approved and accepted a plat of Bartholdi's addition to the city of Crown Point, laid out in the east part of the town. The plans and profiles of Foote and Pettlbone streets were accepted and approved. The council took up the matetr of the drainage of the Bezor ditch and decided to clean out and straighten the ditch from the Panhandle to the Erie tracks, putting In an adequate culvert across Summit street. The waterway will be run along the Gary & Southern interurban. The work was put in the hands of the street and alley committee for disposition. The council ordered the city engineer ( to devise a system of house and street numbering In the city, to be submitted for the approval of the council, and an ordinance will be adopted requiring such house numbering done to comply with the postal laws regulating the maintaining of a free mall delivery system. A petition was made for an arc light on the corner of Main and Summit streets and same placed in the hands of the committee on lights for disposal. An ordinance appropriating money for the payment of interest and bonds of the water works was passed unanl-
mous-ly. An ordinance to regulate the j pa.ixiii.ig ui icicpauue, electric - ugni ; and interurban poles was passed and the three public service corporations : were given orders to paint all poles a ! slate color, the work to be completed before Oct. -1. : The book of rules and regulations governing the Crown Point cemetery were ordered distributed to each and every patron of the cemetery. ' The bond of "William Lamphler as deputy marshal at the cemetery was approved and accepted. Mrs. Catherine Brady Is recovering from the effects of a quite serious accident In which she sustained Injuries last week through a horse which she was driving running away. She wa returning home from a performance at the Lyric theater In the evening accompanied by a child, when the rubber tire on the wheel of the buggy became loose, striking the horse at each revolution of the. wheel. The animal became frightened, ran away, overturned the buggy and threw the occupants to the ground. Mrs. Brady receiving a severe scalp wound which took several stitches to close. She pluckily held on to the reins and succeeded In holding the horse until assistance arrived. She Is reported recovering nicely at this writing. It is said a concerted action will be made this week to have the iron rail removed to relieve the congestion in! traffic, whlc his erowin more annarent each day since the street car serv- ! ice was installed. The county commissioners will be approached with a petition backed up by the request of the city council, for the removal of the rail on the east side of the square at least, and it la quite likely that the plan will be adopted. The Lake George Park opened yester day. A man from Chicago, whose name I was not learned, was the victim ln an accident which occurred near the Michigan Central crossing, about 4 miles north of here. He was riding a motorcycle and was run Into by an automo bile, which was being driven by Crown Point man. The motorcycle was demolished and its driver had his right leg broken. Mr. Brabbs, the milkman, narrowly escaped being injured by a fast train last Saturday morning.
