SOX DOWN TIGERS 111 ROUND TWELVE Three Singles, Last by Ray Schalk, Sacrifice and a Walk Net Victory.
Detroit, Mich.. April 30. The White Sox celebrated Ty Cobb day by trimminer the Tigers' claws yeBterday afternoon, but it required twelve innings
of human endeavor to do it by a score of 6 to E. And seven-eight of the half-frozen bugs who' saw the return of the Georgia wonder to the game always will believe that Ty cut off the winning run by a shoestring catch of Ray Schalk's bread-winning single. . After two were out in the twelfth round the White Sox broke the tie which had continued from the eighth inning. Joe Bens lead that attack with a single and was sacrificed to second by Rath, but was cut down trying to go, to third on Lord's rap to Bush. Collins worked a free passage to first and Borton slashed a single to left on which Lord registered what everybody thought would be the winning tally. Schalk then poked a low liner over second, and Cobb, racing in fast, scooped the ball off the earth and threw home too late to keep Collins from scoring.

CLOUTING CUBS TRAMPLE ON REDS
Initial Onslaught Nets
Three Runs and Gives Trojans Game.
It took the clouting Cubs just one Inning to trample the life out of Joe
Tinker's trailing Reds yesterday in
thejr first encounter of the year at the west side park. The score was 7 to 3 and the Trojans drove home three runs in their first attack, enough to have
won the combat.
Kven with the Reds wearing White
Sox uniforms, the Cubs were able to win away off by themselves with many
runs to spare. The Cubs have battled those south side uniforms in the past with horrifying results, but thlB time
the Callahans weren't wearing them.
Tinker's boys appeared in the gray
traveling suits of the White Sox be
cause Doc Semmens, former trainer for
the Cubs, but now acting in the same
capacity for the Reds, pulled a boner down in St. Louis. He failed to check the Reds' baggage with all their baseball wearing apparel and when they reached Chicago yesterday they found they had nothing to wear in the game.

son to expect a bout of unusual Interest. While the bettings favors Mc
Carty, inasmuch as he- has the best of
Moran In record, weighty and height, some shrewd fans smile ' and assert that New Yorkers will have a surprise
sprung on them when Moran opens up
McCarty has been training at Dal Hawkins' roadhouse in Westchester.
He was in excellent condition before he
came here and has worked to maintain
that condition. Moran has been at Stratford, Conn., where he has been working under the direction of Joe
Jeannette, who knows one or two lit tie tricks about the fighting game.
Admirers of Moran say that he has trained better for this fight than for any he has ever had. They assert that the reason eastern fight fans haven't much confidence in Moran's ability is because they had never had much opportunity to see him in action, as he
has fought mostly in the west and in Europe. Moran's record, however, is not particularly encouraging. About the best thing In it is the fact that he went through twenty rounds with Gunboat Smith and stood the latter's terrific hammering, alhough he lost the decision. , His most refecent accomplishment of any note was the knocking out of Al McCloskey In five rounds.
